Predicting Gujarat Titans’ playing XI for their match against Delhi Capitals

The stage is set for a crucial clash in Delhi as the Delhi Capitals are going to lock horns with the Gujarat Titans on Wednesday. Both teams, currently tied on points with four wins from eight matches, find themselves precariously perched in the IPL’s mid-table. A win is paramount for both sides to avoid getting dragged into the congested pack. The Titans, coming off a morale-boosting victory against Punjab, will be keen to replicate their away form in Delhi and solidify their position. 

Here, we look at GT’S probable playing XI for the game:

Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill has had a decent run in IPL 2024 but given his own high standards, he will be looking for more runs so as to create a massive impact for his team. It is important that Gill bats close to his best as the rest of GT’s batting is quite fragile.

Wriddhiman Saha

Wriddhiman Saha has had a poor run so far this season, having accumulated just 91 runs in 7 innings. His strike-rate of 115.19 is also concerning given that his role is to play attacking cricket in the powerplay. GT needs him to strike form immediately as time is running out for them.

Sai Sudharsan

Sai Sudharsan’s strike-rate is a huge worry for GT. Sudharsan’s slow approach has got the team into muddy waters on more than one occasion, including the previous game against Punjab. GT will hope that he shows more intent come the game against Delhi Capitals.

David Miller

David Miller’s form was a huge reason behind GT’s success in their first two stints in the IPL. However, he has failed to replicate that form this season. Injuries haven’t helped his cause but now that the tournament is close to the business end, he needs to get back into his groove.

Azmatullah Omarzai

There is no denying Azmatullah Omarzai’s talent and skills but so far in IPL 2024, he has looked like a bits and pieces player. Omarzai has a crucial role in the side with both bat and ball and hence, needs to step up at the earliest.

Rahul Tewatia

One of the more underrated cricketers going around the circuit, Rahul Tewatia has consistently delivered for Gujarat Titans. Tewatia helped Gujarat close the previous game against Punjab after the rest of the batters got the team into a dicey situation. GT will hope for him to keep replicating his ice-cool finishing.

Rashid Khan

While he has been economical, Rashid Khan hasn’t been picking up too many wickets this season, something that will concern the Titans’ management. Part of the reason for that is the fact that batters these days try to play him out. GT will be banking on him for a big performance sooner rather than later. 

Noor Ahmad

Noor Ahmad, like Rashid, hasn’t conceded too many runs but wickets have eluded him as well. However, given the skills that he possesses, a breakthrough performance may not be too far away.

Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore

Sai Kishore bossed the previous encounter, claiming a magnificent five-wicket haul to dismantle Punjab Kings’ batting lineup. That was a huge positive for the Titans, especially because the two Afghans haven’t picked up too many wickets.

Mohit Sharma

Mohit Sharma was once again brilliant in the previous game, as he has been for a long period of time now. Shubman Gill will once again bank on him to get the job done in the difficult death overs.

Impact Substitute: Kartik Tyagi and Shahrukh Khan

Sandeep Warrier was extremely expensive in the previous game, conceding 21 runs in one over. As such, GT could hand an opportunity to the young Kartik Tyagi who has not had too many games in recent times. Shahrukh Khan and Tyagi could be substituted based on whether GT bat or bowl first. Khan’s form will be in focus as he has had plenty of opportunities in the cash-rich league already.
