Predicting AUS’s Playing XI for the 2nd T20I against SA in South Africa tour of Australia 2025

Having won the first T20I in Darwin with a comfortable 17-run win against South Africa, Australia will come into the second T20I of South Africa tour of Australia 2025 with confidence. Tim David set the stage ablaze, while Hazlewood and Dwarshuis quietly orchestrated a bowling masterclass to keep the pressure alive.

Australia has already wrapped up the series and will want to deliver the ultimate blow early against a South African team that will be determined to bounce back. The home side will also be aware of the solid balance they have in their XI, and that many players delivered match-winning performances in the first T20I.

Openers

Mitchell Marsh

Mitchell Marsh, the Aussie captain, may have only scored 13 runs in the opening T20I, but his explosive beginning at a strike rate of 185.71 shows his intent. He is still important at the top, able to knock the new ball attack out within the first few overs. Joining him is Travis Head, looking to bounce back from his scratchy 2 off 7 balls.

Head’s aggressive temperament and ability to handle pace or spin make him a tricky prospect. If both can fire at the same time, then it is not hard to see Australia putting up, or chasing, a total over what is considered par.

Middle Order

Cameron Green

The middle order has a strong front in Cameron Green and Tim David. Cameron’s impressive innings of 35 runs from 13 balls helped to recover from the early losses of three wickets within the powerplay overs. His dynamic hitting, particularly down the ground, provides great momentum in the game.

However, it was Tim David who stole the show. His impressive 83 runs from 52 balls, with 4 fours and 8 sixes, were a nice balance of pace and power. David can easily anchor the innings and then change gears with ease, making him Australia’s biggest batting plus going into the 2nd T20I.

All-Rounders

Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell had an unusual batting failure, contributing only one run with the bat, but he made up in spades with the ball. Bowling four overs for 29 runs, Maxwell claimed the crucial wicket of Lhuan-dre Pretorius, a key player known for breaking partnerships.

Cameron Green is similar, acting as a batting medium pacer when required, and both provide further versatility to the team, and they also provide Marsh flexibility to adjust his plans based on the changing situation throughout the game.

Bowlers

Josh Hazlewood

Josh Hazlewood once again showed why he’s a T20 weapon, with 3 for 27 in 4 overs with brilliant line and length bowling. An opening blow from Hazlewood removed Aiden Markram, giving the bowlers a solid platform to build on.

Ben Dwarshuis was an excellent partner for Hazlewood, with 3 for 26 and smashing the South African middle order. The ability to keep it tight and consistently take wickets is what Australia needs to restrict the Proteas’ batting in the second game.

Australia’s expected XI for the 2nd T20I looks incredibly strong, with Tim David and Cameron Green leading the batting, Glenn Maxwell to provide any type of all-round balance, and Hazlewood-Dwarshuis leading the bowling attack. If these match-winners fire again, the Aussies will certainly look to wrap up the series in style in Darwin. It will take something special from South Africa to stop this confident and strong Australian team.
