Zimbabwe registered their first win in an away Test in 17 years back in November 2018. They defeated Bangladesh at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium by 151 runs to end their long wait for an away Test win.
Before this, their last away Test victory was against Bangladesh at the Chittagong Stadium in November 2001. That team comprised legendary Zimbabwean players like Grant Flower, Andy Flower, Heath Streak, and captain Stuart Carlisle.
Coming back to the Test match in 2018, Zimbabwe captain Hamilton Masakadza won the toss and opted to bat first. He scored a gritty half-century at the top of the order. Sean Williams missed out on a well-deserved century, falling short of the milestone by just 12 runs. Peter Moor remained unbeaten on 63 as the tourists were bowled out on 282 in 117.3 overs. Taijul Islam was the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers, finishing with figures of 6/108.
In reply, the Tigers lost half their side for 49 runs before fighting knocks from Mushfiqur Rahim and Ariful Haque helped them avoid the follow-on. Tendai Chatara and Sikandar Raza bagged three-fors for the Chevrons as Bangladesh were bowled out for 143.
Having taken a 139-run first-innings lead, Zimbabwe piled on the misery for Bangladesh with the bat in the second innings. On a crumbling pitch, Masakadza top-scored with a 104-ball 48. Brendan Taylor, Sean Williams, Sikandar Raza, and Regis Chakabva chipped in with small but important contributions.
The visitors were eventually bowled out for 181 in 65.4 overs. Taijul backed up his six-for in the first innings with a five-wicket haul in the second.
Bangladesh were set a target of 321 runs The hosts got off to a sedate start with openers Litton Das and Imrul Kayes adding a 56-run stand. However, the middle-order failed to convert their starts as the Zimbabwean spinners wreaked havoc. Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 169 in 63.1 overs. Nine out of the 10 wickets fell to the spinners, with Brandon Mavuta starring with a four-for.
