OTD: Ravi Bishnoi was born in 2000

Ravi Bishnoi was born in 2000 on this day, September 5. His father, Mangilal Bishnoi, is a headmaster, and his mother, Sohni Devi, a homemaker, and they live in the Birami village in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. He has a brother, Ashok, and two sisters, Anita and Rinku.

With the help of two coaches, Pradyot Singh Rathore and Shahrukh Pathan, Bishnoi built a cricket academy in Jodhpur named Spartans Cricket Academy, where the leg-spinner trained. He was part of Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2018 as a net bowler.

Bishnoi made his Rajasthan debut in the 2018-19 Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy and was also part of the Indian U19 team for the 2020 Youth World Cup, finishing as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament.

He was bought by Punjab Kings in the IPL 2020 auction, and he made his debut against Delhi Capitals. He moved to Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022. He was retained by LSG ahead of IPL 2025 for INR 11 crores.

Meanwhile, Bishnoi’s fast leg-spin caught the eyes of Indian selectors as well, and he made his T20I debut against the West Indies in Kolkata in 2022. He has also played one ODI, against South Africa at Lucknow in 2022.

Thus far he has 61 wickets at an economy of 7.35 in 42 T20Is for India, with a best of 4/13. Bishnoi is an excellent fielder in the deep and can also bat well and hit big shots when needed.

In IPL, he has 72 wickets in 77 matches with a best of 3/24 and an economy of 8.21.

Bishnoi also became the no. 1 ranked T20I bowler in the ICC rankings for a few weeks, showing that he was capable of holding his own in the big leagues.
