OTD Rahul Chahar was born in 1999

Rahul Chahar was born in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, on this day in 1999. Chahar, who was raised in a cricketing household and has his cousin Deepak Chahar who also plays for India, is a leg-spinner renowned for his quick turn and accuracy.

Rahul was born to Usha and Desraj Singh Chahar in a Hindu Jat family. He and his cousin Deepak were trained together by his paternal uncle Lokendra Singh Chahar. He began as a quick bowler but eventually discovered that spinning the ball was his true skill.

In the home circuit, where he played for Rajasthan in a number of age-group competitions, his leg-spin abilities immediately attracted attention. Because of his outstanding results in the Under-19 circuit, the Rajasthan team quickly selected him to compete in the Ranji Trophy.

He was a great addition to his teams because of his ability to turn the ball at fast speeds. Chahar made his debut for Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy during the 2016–17 season, demonstrating his potential as an Indian star of the future.

Chahar’s rise to prominence was largely attributed to the Indian Premier League (IPL). Following a brief time with the Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017, he was selected by the Mumbai Indians, where coach Mahela Jayawardene and Rohit Sharma helped him grow quickly.

Chahar was a key player in their winning campaigns, taking 41 wickets for MI between 2019 and 2021. He also took 14 wickets for Punjab King in an brilliant IPL 2022 campaign.

Chahar’s IPL triumph cleared the path for his India debut that came in a T20I in August 2019 against the West Indies. In addition, he was a member of India’s 2021 T20 World Cup team.

He has played one ODI for India, taking 3/54, while in six T20Is, Rahul Chahar has seven wickets with a best of 3/15. Rahul Chahar is still a strong spinner in the IPL and domestic circuit, despite the intense rivalry for slots in the Indian squad. He is still eligible for upcoming national call-ups, particularly in white-ball formats, as he gains more experience.
