OTD: NZ beat PAK by four runs in Abu Dhabi Test in 2018

The first Test of the three-match series between Pakistan and New Zealand turned out to be one for the ages. On November 19, 2018, New Zealand secured a thrilling four-run win in Abu Dhabi to take the lead.

Opting to bat first, the Kiwis were bowled out for a paltry 153 in 66.3 overs as there were no substantial contributions other than that of skipper Kane Williamson (63 off 112). While it was an all-round effort from the Pakistan bowling unit, Yasir Shah stood out with a three-wicket haul to his name.

Pakistan were bowled out for 227 in their first innings as Trent Boult picked up four wickets. Babar Azam top-scored with 62 to his name. By the time Day 2 ended, New Zealand were 56/1 in their second innings.

Despite half-centuries from Henry Nicholls (55 off 171) and BJ Watling (59 off 145), New Zealand were bundled out for 249 in just over 100 overs. The wickets were shared between Hasan Ali and Yasir, both of whom picked five each.

The Sarfaraz Ahmed-led unit were looking in total control of the chase Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq going strong.  A wicket of the latter for 45 off 81 triggered a massive collapse. In a thrilling finish to the match, Azhar was dismissed for 65 off 136 by Ajaz Patel as the last wicket to fall.
