Top 3 performances of Kane Williamson in Tests

Kane Williamson is one of the finest cricketers to have played the game. He is known for seamlessly switching from one format to another. The former New Zealand skipper has excelled in every format of international cricket, but he has particularly shone at a very high level in red-ball cricket.

Williamson has played 105 Tests, amassing 9276 runs at a staggering average of 54.89. The right-handed batter has 33 centuries and 37 fifties to his name in the longest format of the game.

Here’s a look at Williamson’s top three performances in Tests:

3. 131 versus India in 2010

Williamson made his Test debut against India in November 2010 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In New Zealand’s first innings, he batted at No. 6 and scored a gutsy century. The Tauranga-born was excellent against the spinners on a challenging surface as he scored 131 off 299 balls, hitting 10 fours. His knock went a long way in helping the Kiwis draw the Test match.

2. 251 versus West Indies in 2020

Williamson’s highest Test score of 251 came against the West Indies in the first Test at Seddon Park, Hamilton, in December 2020. The then-New Zealand captain smashed 251 off 412 balls in the first innings. He hit 34 boundaries and two sixes in his fluent knock. The Kiwis declared at 519/7. They batted only once in the Test match as the West Indies lost by an innings and 134 runs.

1. 242 versus Sri Lanka in 2015

Williamson scored his maiden double century in Tests in January 2015 at the Basin Reserve in Wellington between New Zealand and Sri Lanka. The right-handed batter scored 69 in the first innings as New Zealand managed 221. However, Kumar Sangakkara’s double century helped Sri Lanka take a mammoth 135-run first-innings lead. In the second innings, Williamson belted an unbeaten 242 off 438 balls, hitting 18 fours, and spending more than 10 hours at the crease. The tourists were set a target of 390, and they folded for 196.
