Double Century in the first innings

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first. They could not start the first innings on a good note as they lost early wickets. When Mushfiqur Rahim came out to bat Bangladesh had already lost 3 wickets for just 26 runs. Imrul Kayes, Litton Das, and Mohammad Mithun were back in the pavilion which left Bangladesh in the lurch.

The left-handed Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim stitched a massive partnership to rescue Bangladesh from the crisis. They added 266 runs for the fourth wicket which pushed Zimbabwe to the backfoot. Tendai Chatara dismissed Mominul Haque but Mushfiqur Rahim continued his batting at the other end. Bangladesh kept losing wickets on one end but Rahim’s perseverance stood out. Along with the all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, he added 144 runs for the eighth wicket and took Bangladesh beyond the 500-run mark. Mushfiqur Rahim stayed unbeaten till the end. Bangladesh declared the first innings for 522/7 putting themselves in a comfortable position.

Captain Mahmudullah scored 101 runs in the second innings to give solidity to the crumbling batting order.

Zimbabwe had to chase 443 runs to register a win which was a humongous task. Bangladesh’s bowling attack showed up with an amazing performance to trouble the Zimbabwe batting lineup. Chevrons could not show much resilience and proved to be miserable in Mirpur. They could only score 224 runs in the second innings conceding a huge defeat by 218 runs. Mushfiqur Rahim was adjudged the player of the match for his double century.
