OTD: Mohammad Hafeez was born in 1980

Mohammad Hafeez, aka The Professor, was born on October 17, 1980, in Sargodha. He grew up playing cricket in the streets before breaking into the professional ranks. In 2011, he became only the third cricketer after Sanath 

Jayasuriya and Jacques Kallis to score 1000+ runs and take 30+ wickets in ODIs in a single calendar year.

Hafeez made his international cricket debut in April 2003 in an ODI against Zimbabwe at Sharjah. He played 218 ODIs for Pakistan and scored 6614 runs at an average of 32.90, including 11 centuries and 38 half-centuries. He also took 139 wickets at an average of 38.84, an economy of 4.18, and a strike rate of 55.6.

Hafeez played his first Test in August 2003 against Bangladesh, and featured in 55 Tests Pakistan in his career, amassing 3652 runs at an average of 37.64, including 10 centuries and 12 half-centuries. His highest score of 224 runs came against Bangladesh in 2015. It was his only double century in Test matches. Hafeez also took 53 Test wickets at an average of 34.11.

His T20I debut came against England in August 2006 He was the first Pakistani batter to score over 2000 runs in T20Is, finishing with 2514 runs in 119 games at an average of 26.46. He also took 61 wickets in T20Is at an average of 22.75, an economy of 6.60, and a strike rate of 20.6. 

Hafeez captained Pakistan in T20Is in 29 games. He was appointed the captain in May 2012 and the vice-captain of the ODI and the T20I teams. Pakistan reached the semi-final under Hafeez’s captaincy in the 2012 T20 World Cup.
