OTD| Lasith Malinga produced a miraculous over, picking four wickets in four balls against South Africa in World Cup 2007

On this day, back in 2007, Sri Lanka star bowler Lasith Malinga went on to achieve a magnificent milestone as the star cricketer went on to pick up four wickets in four balls against South Africa during the T20 World Cup 2007 that took place on March 28. Notably, the great bowler achieved this milestone in the 26th match of the marquee event during the Super Eights round.

However, this match was played at the Providence Stadium in Georgetown, and the Yorker King went on to achieve this wonderful feat. Notably, the great pacer went on to become the first cricketer to scalp four wickets in four balls in international cricket.

Speaking about the game here, it was Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene who won the toss and invited the hosts to bowl first in the game. Notably, after being opted to bat first, Sri Lanka piled up 209 runs before being bowled out in the game. Star opening batters Upul Tharanga and Sanath Jayasuriya went on to pile up 12 and 26 runs, respectively. Following them, skipper Mahela Jayawardene could only get 12 runs. However, following him, Kumar Sangakkara made 28 runs while Chamara Silva was out for nine runs.

However, it was Tillakaratne Dilshan and Russell Arnold who went on to hammer half-centuries to help their side post a decent total against South Africa. Meanwhile, during the chase, South Africa had the best start of the game as skipper Graeme Smith and opening batter Jacques Kallis went on to hammer 59 and 86 runs, respectively, to give them a flying start.

Later towards the end, South Africa went on to win the game as they were able to chase down the total with 10 balls to spare despite Lasith Malinga scalping four wickets as he went on to dismantle Shaun Pollock, Andre Hall, Jacques Kallis, and Makhaya Ntini. However, despite losing the game, Malinga was adjudged as the Player of the Match.
