
Amidst the cold winds of Karachi on this day, (December 27), 42 years back in 1982, India and Pakistan were taking on each other on each other on the last day of the second Test of the six-match Test series. The hosts Pakistan were completely dominating Sunil Gavaskar’s India.
Pakistan skipper Imran Khan stole the show with his sensational bowling performances in both innings. He scalped 3 wickets at just 19 runs in the first innings followed by his historic eight-wicket haul in the second innings, scalping 8 wickets at just 60 runs to win the ‘Player of the Match award.
On the back of Imran’s bowling heroics, Pakistan registered their biggest Test win over India till then.

Speaking of the game’s action, the hosts’ skipper Imran Khan won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first. Batting first, the Indians were bowled out at the score of just 169, with the star all-rounder Kapil Dev scoring 73 runs off just 53 balls, with 12 fours and a six. Abdul Qadir claimed 4 wickets, alongside Imran Khan’s 3 wickets. Besides these two, former legendary Pakistan pacer Sarfraz Nawaz also bagged 2 wickets in the first innings.
In response to India’s 169, Pakistan posted a big total of 452 runs in the first innings courtesy of the amazing centuries scored by Zaheer Abbas (186 runs) and Mudassar Nazar (119 runs). India all-rounder Kapil Dev continued to shine for India and this time with the ball; he claimed a brilliant five-wicket haul, scalping 5 wickets in 28.5 overs. Besides him, Madan Lal picked 3 wickets, alongside 1 wicket each bagged by Mohinder Amarnath and Dilip Doshi.
Pakistan had taken the lead of 283 runs which looked quite far for the Indian batters as the opponent skipper and the legend pacer of his era, Imran Khan ran through the visitors’ batting lineup. Pakistan bundled out India at the score of just 197 runs in the second innings and won the game by a big margin of an innings and 86 runs, their biggest Test win against India at that time. Imran Khan claimed 8 wickets at just 60 runs in his 20.1-over stint, alongside the remaining two wickets scalped by Abdul Qadir.
