On this day, back in 2013, West Indies star cricketer Chris Gayle went on to hammer the highest individual score in IPL history and took the marquee event to the epitome of the level by posting the world-class record. Notably, the opening batter went on to amass unbeaten 175 runs from 66 balls, featuring 13 fours and 17 sixes with a solid strike rate of 266 to help RCB win the game.
Speaking about the game here, it was Pune Warriors skipper Aaron Finch who won the toss and invited RCB to bat first in the game. Notably, after being sent to bat first, Virat Kohli-led RCB had the perfect start as Chris Gayle played a sublime knock while Tillakaratne Dilshan made 33 runs from 36 balls featuring five fours and secured the stand with Chris Gayle.
However, following that, skipper Virat Kohli made 11 runs, but star batter AB de Villiers went on to hammer 31 runs from just eight balls, featuring three fours and three sixes that boosted their middle order as well as helping the side to post 263/5 in just 20 overs. Notably, Ashok Dinda had scalped two wickets, while Mitchell Marsh and Luke Wrights got one wicket.
Meanwhile, during the chase, Robin Uthappa was out on a duck, while skipper Aaron Finch could make just 18 runs in the game. Following the same, Yuvraj Singh could only pile up 16 runs, while Luke Wright was out for a total of 7 runs. In addition, Steve Smith could only make 41 runs. On the other hand, Mitchell Marsh and Mithun Manhas were out for 24 and 11 runs, respectively, which helped them just get 133 runs in the 20 overs and make them lose the game by 130 runs.
Notably, the Pune Warriors failed to match even Chris Gayle’s score, and the game was very one-sided. It was played on April 23, 2013, at M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium. However, RCB also failed to continue this momentum in the next clashes and failed to qualify for the playoffs in the IPL 2013, while CSK went on to win the title.
