OTD | Afghanistan scripted their biggest upset by beating England in ODI World Cup 2023 clash

The day is the 15th of October and this is the time when one of the most iconic upsets in cricket took place as underdogs Afghanistan went on to beat defending champions England in the ODI World Cup 2023 this season. This was one of the moments that shocked everyone in the cricketing world who believed that the England team was one of the favourites to win the tournament.

There have been some massive upsets in the ICC events which are remembered even today and one of these moments was witnessed in Delhi where Hasmatullah Shahidi and his men beat one of the top international sides in the world and created history. This was one of the most dramatic events of the 2023 World Cup which created a lot of buzz among the masses.

The match that shocked the cricketing World

England was going into the World Cup as one of the favourites after all they were the defending champions. However, they were in for a surprise in the match. It all started with a fiery knock of 80 from 57 deliveries from Rahmanullah Gurbaz and a great half-century from Ikram Alikhil. The cameos from Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi were enough to push the Afghan total to 284 which was a commendable total which was defendable.

Though it was a great effort from Afghanistan the people still believed that England would still chase it down with the powerful batting lineup they had. However, the spin twins of the Afghan side had other ideas as Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman created havoc in the England lineup and made sure they bundled out for just 215 which resulted in one of the biggest upsets in the game as they beat the Poms by 69 runs in the end. This was one of the best moments for Afghanistan cricket and it was a great match to witness the underdogs getting the better of the defending champions.
