IPL: Top 3 highest partnerships for Sunrisers Hyderabad

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has witnessed many iconic partnerships since the league’s inception in 2008. The world’s richest cricket league has entered its 16th season, and there is no shortage of batters combining to dazzle viewers with their spectacular batting displays.

The Virat Kohli-AB de Villiers combo at Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is regarded as one of the best pairings in the history of the league. These two legendary batters hold the top two highest partnership in the IPL – 219 vs Gujarat Lions, 215* vs Mumbai Indians.

On that note, let’s take a look at the top 3 highest partnerships for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL.

3. David Warner, Jonny Bairstow (160)

On 8 October 2020, SRH recorded a massive 69-run win over Kings XI Punjab (Punjab Kings) on the back of a 160-run first-wicket partnership between SRH openers Jonny Bairstow and David Warner. Batting first at the Dubai International Stadium, Bairstow played an aggressive knock and fell 3 runs short of a well-deserved century, while skipper Warner took the anchoring role and hit 52 off 40 balls to post a massive total of 201-6 in 20 overs.

In reply, all of Punjab’s top-order batters including captain KL Rahul, failed to find any resistance at the crease. However, Nicholas Pooran played like a lone warrior, scoring 77 off 37 balls, but his valiant effort was in vain as they were bowled out for 132 in 16.5 overs.

2. Shikhar Dhawan, Kane Williamson (176*)

On May 10, SRH opener Shikhar Dhawan and skipper Kane Williamson put on an unbeaten 176 runs partnership for the second wicket against Delhi Daredevils (Delhi Capitals) to make them the first side to secure a playoff berth in the IPL 2018. Batting first, Delhi set a target of 187, thanks to Rishabh Pant’s magnificent century (128* off 63).

In the chase, SRH lost the wicket of Alex Hales early, but Dhawan (92* off 50) and Williamson 83* off 53) smashed brilliant half-centuries to knock the hosts out of the tournament with a massive 9-wicket win.

The destructive openers of SRH, Warner and Bairstow recorded the highest partnership for any wicket for the franchise in IPL 2019 on March 31 against RCB at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. Batting first, SRH posted a massive score of 231-2 on the back of two stunning centuries from Warner and Bairstow.

The Englishman smashed his first IPL century (114 off 56) with 12 boundaries and 7 sixes, while his partner contributed 70 off 42. In reply, RCB looked clueless as they suffered a collapse from the start, however, a handy contribution from the tail-enders ensured they crossed the 100-run mark.
