In just a few weeks Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will kick off as fans are eagerly waiting to see their players getting back in the ground. Kolkata Knight Riders will start their title defense as they will play Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the first game of the season. The last time both the teams faced in a season opener was in 2008 in which the Kolkata Knight Riders won. 

Since the mega auction took place before IPL 2025 the defending champions team has had a lot of change. Ajinkya Rahane is named as captain of the team and his experience will be very helpful as Kolkata Knight Riders have a team who can defend the title. Meanwhile this season KKR will have a lot of attention as many players who were part of title winning have left the squad. Hence on that note, we look at 3 things Kolkata Knight Riders will look to improve from last year.

1. Middle-Order:

Kolkata Knight Riders did not retain winning captain Shreyas Iyer and during the mega-auction, Shreyas Iyer joined Punjab Kings. Ahead of this IPL KKR must work to revamp their middle-order batting. When he was on the team he had the batting line-up stability. But this season KKR’s middle order must be stable as Ajinkya Rahane has many options who can play in middle order.

2. Try to stabilize the Top Order:

Ajinkya Rahane has a lot of work to do after being named captain of Kolkata Knight Riders. Last season Sunil Narine and Phil Salt put on a strong show as Kolkata Knight Riders won the title. But this time KKR has got Quinton de Kock and Ajinkya Rahane who are great top-order batters. Before getting ready to play in IPL KKR must come up with a clear mindset of top order position.

3. Lack of fast bowling experience:

This year KKR’s fast bowling attack has less experience which is a reason that worries KKR. Since Starc left they bought Anrich Nortje but in recent times he has also leaked out of runs. While Spencer Johnson will be playing his first IPL. However, Harshit Rana is the only pacer from last year’s set-up and he will be key player for the team.
