IPL 2025: 3 reasons why RR lost to RCB

IPL 2025: 3 reasons why RR lost to RCB

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally ended their wait for a home win in the IPL 2025 season. Rajasthan Royals, needing 206 to win the game, could only score 194 on the board and lost the match by 11 runs. This win meant that RCB have now moved into the third spot in the table and are just two wins away from making it to the playoffs.

Rajasthan Royals meanwhile, are on the cusp of an exit from the tournament. Riyan Parag and his steam for the third game in succession put up a botched chase and went onto lose from a position of strength. With just five games left in the season, RR not only have to win all their games but also will be hoping that other result go their way.

Here are the three reasons why RR lost to RCB

3- Continued bad form of Tushar Deshpande

Former CSK pacer Tushar Deshpande hasn’t been in the greatest of form with the ball so far. The 30-year-old bowled two overs and gave away 30 runs before he was pulled out of the attack. This isn’t the first time that Deshpande has failed to deliver the goods with the ball for RR this season. Deshpande has picked just six wickets from eight games this campaign and has gone wicketless on four occasions. Akash Madhwal, who is warming the benches, could have been tried in one of the games by RR’s team management

2- No support for Hasaranga

Wanindu Hasaranga has been the only RR bowler to put pressure on the opposition in the middle overs. Release of veteran stars like Yuzvendra Chahal and R Ashwin meant that RR needed a new spin duo to do the damage. While Hasaranga has already picked ten wickets this campaign, Maheesh Theekshana’s bad form has meant that RR have struggled. Theekshana was dropped for the game, and this was a huge blunder considering that some of the RCB batters tend to struggle against the spinners.

1- Lack of finishers with the bat

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi gave RR a great start with the bat before Riyan Parag and Nitish Rana scored key runs for RR. Dhruv Jurel batted well to score 47 runs, but it wasn’t enough for the Royals to close out the game. Jurel, despite his talents, doesn’t have the experience to play the role of a finisher. Shubham Dubey is a relative newbie in the IPL. While most of the teams have a designated finisher, RR lacked the key batter who could close out the game and make the difference in crucial times of the match.
