IPL 2024: 3 problems with Mumbai Indians’ campaign so far

The Indian Premier League is almost halfway finished and this time we will be talking about one of the teams that has been one of the active and most dominating teams in the league. We are talking about the Mumbai Indians (MI). They are known as the best team in the world and have won the trophy 5 times being the joint highest with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). It is safe to say they have established themselves as one of the popular sides in the tournament.

However, the campaign of the Paltan this season has been underwhelming so far where they have only managed to win 2 out of their 6 games. Not a lot has gone right for the new MI skipper in his first time leading the team. It is time to talk about the major problems which they are facing right now for the team to look at in the future. These problems are hurting the chances of qualifications of the star-studded side.

3. Misusing Jasprit Bumrah

This is a mystery to every MI fan who has witnessed this season. The rotation of bowlers by Hardik Pandya should be questioned by everyone. The one thing that has been upsetting everyone is how he is dealing with the class of Jasprit Bumrah who has been underbowled in the powerplay and has bowled only after the opponent is already scoring at a brisk pace. This is an issue that needs to be figured out by the management and the skipper.

2. Failure by batters in the middle order

This is one of the factors that has been overlooked due to some great batting by the openers at the top and great finishing touches by the hitters like Shepherd and David down the order. However, the middle order is the one that has put the team under a lot of pressure lately. Batters such as Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya have been underwhelming this season and have to get back to runs soon enough.

1. Bowling attack leaking runs and leaving too much for the batters

This was a problem not only in the current but the previous season as well. It is time the bowlers came to the party for the Mumbai Indians right now. It is Bumrah who is alone carrying the bowling attack taking wickets at regular intervals. With the team right now in a lot of problems, it is time for the other bowlers to step up and take on some responsibilities. Even though Gerald Coetzee and Akash Madhwal have taken some wickets in the middle, they have also gone on to leak plenty of runs as well, which should be looked into going forward.
