3 major concerns Chennai need to resolve in Indian T20 League 2023

3 major concerns Chennai need to resolve in Indian T20 League 2023

The Indian T20 League has started off with a bang. The matches have been very gripping to watch. The Indian fans are loving it at the stadiums after a three-year gap. This league is a home and away based format. The games will be played in 12 venues. This edition of the league promises to be more exciting with the addition of new rules. The Indian T20 League started way back in 2008.

Chennai have been one of the most successful franchises in the Indian T20 League. They have played in the playoffs 9 times. Dhoni has led Chennai to four Indian T20 League titles. Chennai have not had the best of starts to this edition. They have had some serious concerns. They have lost one match and won one in the tournament so far. Here is a look at three concerns that Chennai needs to resolve going forward.

3. Batting form of Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes has not set the Indian T20 League on fire in the two matches that he has played. Stokes has made 7 off 6 balls and 8 off 7 balls in the two innings that he has played. Stokes bowled in just one match against Pune. He bowled the one over and conceded 18. If Chennai have to go all the way then Stokes has to be in great form.

2. Lack of pace spearhead

Chennai’s pace department is in doldrums. They lack a pace spearhead in the ranks. Rajyavardhan Hangarkhekar and Deepak Chahar have not shown signs of bowling good spells. The pacers have not been able to bowl effectively as a unit. Chennai do not have someone like Doug Bollinger and Lakshmipathy Balaji in their ranks who used to give their best with the ball for Chennai under pressure.

3. Death bowling

With Ben Stokes having a knee injury, he will not bowl at the death as often. So Chennai have been found short when it comes to death bowling. Deshpande and Hangargekar have been found wanting and have bowled expensive spells. Deepak Chahar who is the most experienced bowler in the Chennai side has not delivered for them so far. If Chennai doesn’t find solutions to these problems, they might end up having a season like 2022.
