After having a disastrous season last year, Chennai Super Kings has made a wonderful comeback and are now into playoffs. Despite not having the best of bowling attacks on paper, the team finished second in the points table. CSK will play against Gujarat Titans at home in the Qualifier One on May 23.
Meanwhile, apart of doing a lot of things right, the team has made some choices too. Even though the latter hasn’t impacted them this year, this might sting them next year. In this listicle, we will discuss three players that the Super Kings can release next year.
Three players that CSK can release
The former India player has played for the team since 2018. That year, he scored most runs for the team. However, after missing out the 2019 World Cup squad, he hasn’t been the same player. Even as the impact subs, the right-hander hardly has has any impact.
On the other hand, they have a player such as Shaik Rasheed. He is a middle-order who played at number four for India in the last year’s U19 World Cup and did well too.
2. Ben Stokes
The England Test skipper was seen as the next leader of the team after MS Dhoni. Not to forget, the latter doesn’t seem to play for much longer now. However, the two-time World Cup winner for England played only two games and has now left for England.
Given the history of his injuries in the last few years, the team might look for different options such as Kyle Jamison (although he has stress fracture). Also, Jamison doesn’t have captaincy duties and won’t play for NZ right after any IPL season which is why he can provide a good all-round option.
The South Africa international played only a few games and did fine. However, a finger injury to him led to a great discovery for the former champions in the death overs, i.e. Matheesha Pathirana. Given the team combination, it is highly likely that Magala might not get to play.
This is the only reason the Protean can released. Otherwise, he is a decent enough batter down the order
