Highest stand during run-chase in IPL

With the evolution of cricket which has happened over the years, the involvement of T20 cricket has certainly made the game of cricket more exciting and has also attracted several fans to the game. The craze of the show has been immense as well as it has also helped the game to spread into various parts of the world. Similarly, Indian Premier League (IPL) is among the most successful as well as followed leagues in the world.

One of the major reasons for the league to turn up so big is due to the fact that some of the best talents in the world play in the league which makes it the success that it has got. The matches in the tournament have also entertained people all around the world. Also, there have been some breathtaking run chases in the history of the tournament which has also made the tournament even more successful. Let us look at some of the highest stands in a run chase in the history of IPL;

1. Naman Ojha and David Warner (189)

In the 2012 edition of the IPL, Naman Ojha and David Warner recorded this historic feat when both batters went on to stitch a partnership of 189 runs for the second wicket which is also the highest partnership while chasing for any wicket in the history of the tournament. Chasing a target of 188 runs to win in the 20 overs, the Delhi Daredevils side lost the wicket of opener, Virender Sehwag in the very first over to Shikhar Dhawan. 

But from then onwards, Warner and Ojha looked solid in the middle and took the team over the line with the Australian legendary batter scoring a tremendous not score of 109 runs and then Naman Ojha also chipping in with 64 runs to his name.

2. Gautam Gambhir and Chris Lynn (184)

In the 2017 edition of the IPL, the Kolkata Knight Riders skipper and his opening partner Chris Lynn scripted a famous 10-wicket win for KKR against Gujarat Lions. Chasing a total of 184 runs to win both the openers looked in full flow while batting and made a mockery of the Gujarat Lions’ bowling.

In the partnership, the skipper went on to contribute 76 runs while Lynn was the chief demolisher who also went on to score 93 runs.

3. Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson (181)

 In the 2020 edition of the IPL, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) openers Faf du Plessis along with Shane Watson went a register monumental partnership of 181 runs for the first wicket chasing a total of 179 runs to win against Kings XI Punjab. 

In the match, which had conditions majorly suited for batting Kings XI Punjab scored a mere total of 178 runs. Both the CSK openers made this chase a cakewalk as the duo chased down the total with ease and helped the franchise register a thumping win by 10 wickets. Watson ended with 83 not out to his name whereas du Plessis signed off with 87 not out.
