Can KKR qualify for playoffs after a rain-interrupted match vs PBKS?

Can KKR qualify for playoffs after a rain-interrupted match vs PBKS?

The IPL 2025 game between KKR and Punjab Kings was rained out on Saturday at the Eden Gardens stadium. KKR could play just one over in their innings while asked to chase 202 runs for a win. Constant rain meant that the game was abandoned and both teams were given a point each. PBKS has now got 11 points while KKR just have seven points with each team playing nine games each.

With five games left, the job is getting harder for KKR to keep their playoff hopes alive. If KKR had won this game they still would have stayed in the seventh spot but would have had to win a maximum of four games out of the five games left. This rain affected game now has put KKR in a tough spot where they have to win each of their final five matches.

To make matters worse the next five games aren’t easy for KKR as they face some tough opposition. If KKR win all their games they still aren’t guaranteed as Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants are also in the race for a top four finish. Incidentally, both MI and LSG play each other on Sunday in what will be a huge game for all the three sides.

How can KKR qualify for the IPL playoffs?

If KKR has to make it to the top four in the points table, they have to win all their matches. If this happens, then KKR will have a maximum of 17 points at the end of the campaign. The next match for KKR is against Delhi at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, and this could be a tough game for the defending champions, considering DC are at the top of their game.

After this KKR will host Rajasthan and Chennai in their home fixtures. One pleasing fact ahead of these two games is that KKR have already beaten both sides at the start of the season. RR and CSK’s bad form will also give Kolkata renewed hope of taking home four points from these two matches. Kolkata then play Hyderabad and RCB away from home to end their season and these two games could be potentially tricky.

Apart from winning their games, KKR would also hope that Mumbai and Lucknow get into a losing run. It is important for Kolkata that even Punjab and Bengaluru lose a few matches, which will give Rahane’s team a chance to make their upward move in the points table.
