3 reasons why Mehidy Hasan Miraz could be Bangladesh’s best performer in Champions Trophy 2025

3 reasons why Mehidy Hasan Miraz could be Bangladesh’s best performer in Champions Trophy 2025

Bangladesh will be taking on India in their first match of the Champions Trophy 2025. They will start the tournament as underdogs due to better teams in their Group. Bangladesh are in Group A which also has India, New Zealand, and hosts Pakistan. Bangladesh made it to the semifinal of the Champions Trophy 2017 in a group featuring England, New Zealand, and Australia. They cannot be ignored as a weak team.

However, on paper, their team does not look as threatening as other teams. Hence, they will not be under pressure like some other teams. For Bangladesh, the focus would be to give their best and not worry about the results. The key for the success of their campaign would be the lower middle order batting and the bowling unit. A key player in that role would be Mehidy Hasan Miraz

Reasons why he could be Bangladesh’s best performer in the Champions Trophy 2025:

All-Round Skills

Mehidy is one of the best ODI All-rounders in the world. The talented player can contribute both as a batter and as a bowler. He is a lower middle order batter who can bat as high as number 6. But for Bangladesh, he usually bats at number 7 or 8. He is a natural anchor who can hold one end up as a batter.

While he can bat aggressively when needed, Hasan can bat responsibly under collapses. Bowling is his primary skill and he’s good at off spin. The right-arm spinner can turn the ball in helpful conditions and be accurate with his lines and lengths. He can be economical from his end and can claim wickets if the batters attack him.

Familiarity with conditions

The Champions Trophy 2025 is happening mostly in Pakistan. India’s matches are scheduled to take place in Dubai. The venues for the tournament are such that there might be a bit of help for the spinners. Especially for the off spinners, there could be a bit of spin on offer due to the slower nature of the surface.

These conditions are similar to the ones in Bangladesh. Having played most of his life in similar conditions, Miraz would be aware of things he needs to do to be successful. He has a great record in such conditions and could pull off great performances for his side due to the familiarity with the conditions

Ability to win matches against top teams

Mehidy is one of the Bangladeshi players to have a good record against top teams. Whenever Bangladesh has won matches against big teams like India, South Africa, and others, Mehidy has had a vital contribution in those matches. He can pull off wins in the big tournaments like the Champions Trophy.

Despite the tournament having most of the best teams in the world, Mehidy is promising to deliver the goods. He can win matches on his own as a bowler. He has proven his ability to win matches from crunch situations. Miraz can bat well with the tail and bail his side out of trouble against the best teams in the world.
