3 reasons why Liam Livingstone could be a game changer for RCB in the IPL 2025

3 reasons why Liam Livingstone could be a game changer for RCB in the IPL 2025

RCB is one of the most unfortunate franchises in the history of the IPL. Despite playing all seasons from 2008 to 2024, they haven’t been able to lift the trophy even once. Only Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings remain teams with no trophies despite playing from 2008. RCB entered the final thrice (2009, 2011, and 2016) and the playoffs numerous times. Yet, they could not get the job done in all instances.

Ahead of the IPL 2025, RCB released most of their key players and built a fairly new squad. They have announced Rajat Patidar as the new captain which could mean a new era for the team. RCB will be hoping to win their maiden IPL title in the 18th edition of the league. They have some of the best players in the world in their squad which might give a lot of confidence for the management.

Here are  the 3 reasons why Liam Livingstone could be a game-changer for RCB in the IPL 2025:

Versatility in bowling

Liam Livingstone is more than a handy bowler. There is a speciality in his bowling. There are off-spinners and left-arm orthodox usually turn the ball on either side. There are other types of spinners like leggings and wrist spinners who turn the ball both ways. But Livingstone is someone who can be an off-spinner and a wrist spinner at the same time.

He can turn the ball away from the left-handers as an off-spinner. At the same time, Livingstone can be a leg spinner and trouble either edge of the right-handers. That way, he becomes a threatening bowler and can be accurate as well as claim wickets in the middle overs. Just by bowling, he’s special and can make a huge impact.

Adaptability in different batting positions

Liam Livingstone can bat anywhere from numbers 3 to 7. He can be aggressive despite the fall of an early wicket or can hammer the bowlers even after a collapse. Liam can change the complexion of a game in a matter of a few overs. He can accelerate the innings in the middle overs and finish well.

RCB usually chop and change their batting order as per their needs. Livingstone is flexible and can bat anywhere in the middle and the lower middle order. If RCB feel the need of a finisher, they can slot him from 5 to 7. He can naturally time the ball in the middle overs against spinners at numbers 3 and 4.

Ability to single-handedly win matches

Livingstone can smash the best bowlers in the world for fun. As a bowler, he can be economical from his end and claim wickets if the batters try to go after him. Liam is a genuine match-winner and can win matches all by himself with little to no support from the other end. A team like RCB needs such players.

Over the years, their team has been highly dependent on big names like Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, AB De Villiers, Faf Du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, and Dinesh Karthik. With only Virat being in the team in the 2025 squad, RCB need someone to step up. Livingstone could be that player who can help RCB.
