3 reasons why Jonny Bairstow is good replacement for MI

One of the most successful franchises in the history of the Indian Premier League – Mumbai Indians have announced their replacements ahead of their final league match fixture. All the replacements are set to be available for the play-off fixtures should the team qualify for the playoffs. Mumbai Indians currently sit in fourth place with 12 points. The five-time champions have a good chance of qualifying for the playoffs should they win their last two league games. Jonny Bairstow, Richard Gleeson and Charith Asalanka are going to replace  Will Jacks, Ryan Rickelton and Corbin Bosch.

Mumbai Indians are set to clash against Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings in their final two league matches. Winning both these matches will amass 18 points for the team, landing them in the final four. Ryan Rickelton shall be replaced by another opening batter, Jonny Bairstow, who has quite the reputation of being a destructive top-order batter. His performance will be key to the success of the franchise in the knockout matches.

Here is the list of three reasons why Jonny Bairstow will be a good addition to the team.

3. Destructive opening batter

The English batter has demonstrated his destructive batting abilities as an opener for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Bairstow boasts a strike rate of over 150 in his IPL career. His impeccable ability to play pace bowling makes him a dangerous customer for opposition.

2. Prior Experience of playing in the IPL

Bairstow previously played in IPL from 2019 to 2024 for the Hyderabad team. He has scored 1600 runs at a strike rate of 152. He has also recorded 3 centuries in the previous seasons. His experience of playing in the top order in the toughest T20 league is sure to be a boon for Mumbai Indians.

1. Jonny’s versatility

Jonny Bairstow is a very versatile batter who can bat at different positions. Previously, he has batted as an opener, number three and number four. He can play both offensive and anchoring roles for the side. Apart from that, Jonny is a terrific wicketkeeper who is safe as houses behind the stumps.
