3 Reasons Why ABF Lost to GAW in the 9th Match of CPL 2025

3 Reasons Why ABF Lost to GAW in the 9th Match of CPL 2025

Fans at North Sound were buzzing with energy as the Falcons stepped out, believing the target set by the Guyana Amazon Warriors was within reach. On paper, the Falcons looked like they had a decent start, but even in the briefest of times, cracks were appearing. The Warriors finished with a very respectable total of 211/3, led this time by Shimron Hetmyer, who scored an astonishing 65 in just 26 balls, and Shai Hope, 82, which gave the Falcons much to do with the bat. What followed in the ensuing run chase was a rapid descent into chaos – a perfect study of how momentum and execution can swing a T20 match.

Batting Collapse

This batting collapse by the Falcons was monumental. The top order collapsed like cards from a deck when faced with the controlled bowling of Pretorius and the ever-impressive Imran Tahir. Rahkeem Cornwall went for a duck in the very first over, and by the end of the sixth over, Shakib Al Hasan and captain Imad Wasim had made their way back to the pavilion, leaving the middle order to face the music. Even players, Karima Gore and Bevon Jacobs, who offered a brief resistance, could not build partnerships because wickets fell in clusters, resulting in the team neverbeing able to find any rhythm. Their total of 128 all out, in just 15.2 overs, proves they were never really in the chase.

Game-Changing Performances from Guyana Warriors

Guyana’s match-winning efforts were clearly vital. Imran Tahir’s brilliant 5-wicket haul exhibited the best spin bowling that ensured that the Falcons simply did not recover from too many wicket losses. Tahir was in a class of his own because his control, flight, and deception allowed the Falcons’ batters little else to do than dance to the beat of his tune. Both Shepherd and Motie delivered controlled overs, making it difficult for the opposition to find runs. Shepherd and Motie also shared in the expense of key wickets. Hetmyer was explosive, and Hope was solid, and now the Warriors had a total on the board and were applying immense pressure to the Falcons. It was quite clear to see over a matter of overs how the match had inverted.

Failure to Adapt and External Factors

Difficult circumstances have worsened the Falcons’ on-field mistakes. The ground at North Sound lent itself to stroke play while also producing some turn for spin bowlers, but the Falcons looked incapable of adapting to an unfamiliar situation as they struggled against the turning ball and misread length and turning pace. Extras were also an unseen villain, as 14 runs, along with a flurry of wides, broke down any attempt to build rhythm. The fielding lapses earlier in the innings and missed chances allowed the Warriors to accelerate without too much fear of being reined back in. The over-reliance on Shakib and Imad, neither of whom had a notable day, exposed the lack of depth and finishing ability in the Falcons’ batting lineup, which was a recipe for disaster against a well-oiled machine like Guyana.
