3 players to watch out for from Vidarbha vs Karnataka Vijay Hazare Trophy final

After nearly a month of high-octane cricketing action, Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024 is set to witness a grand finale. Vidarbha are set to face Karnataka at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara on Saturday. The game is also set to witness former teammates Karun Nair and Mayank Agarwal take the top most prize in India’s 50-over domestic tournament. 

Vidarbha started the tournament by staying unbeaten in the group-stage matches. Karun Nair and his side then beat Rajasthan by nine wickets in the quarter-final stage of the tournament. In the semi-finals, Vidarbha beat Maharashtra by 69 runs to enter the final game of the tournament without losing a game. 

Mayank Agarwal and his Karnataka side began the tournament with four successive wins. Their run was halted when Karnataka lost to Hyderabad by three wickets before beating Saurashtra and Nagaland. In the quarter-final stages, Karnataka beat Baroda by five runs and then beat defending champions Haryana by five wickets to enter the finals.

3- Devdutt Padikkal 

24-year-old batter Devdutt Padikkal hasn’t been having a great time so far with the national side. Padikkal played just one Test match during the tour of Australia before being dumped for the rest of the tour. The young batter has come back home and taken out his frustration on the opposition bowlers. In the two games for Karnataka during the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Padikkal scored 102 and 86 to show his talents with the bat. Vidarbha will be wary of the young batter who can take the game away with his electric batting and penchant for high scores. 

2- Mayank Agarwal 

Forgotten Indian batter Mayank Agarwal has been making a case for his national recall with his sensational batting. The 33-year-old began the season with scores of 47 and 18 against Mumbai and Puducherry respectively. This was followed by three successive tons against Punjab (139*), Arunachal Pradesh (100*), and Hyderabad (124). Agarwal scored 69 against Saurashtra and followed it up with an unbeaten 116 against Nagaland. The veteran batter has scored 619 runs with four centuries and a single fifty in the tournament so far and will be the man to watch out for in the finals. 

1- Karun Nair

After nearly 7 years out of the national team, veteran batter Karun Nair has made the right moves with the bat during the Vijay Hazare tournament. Nair has already scored 752 runs so far in the tournament and has been dismissed just once. The 33-year-old began the season with an unbeaten 112 against Jammu and Kashmir. This was followed by his 44-n-out against Chhattisgarh before scoring 163 against Chandigarh. Knocks of 111* against Tamil Nadu and 112 vs Uttar Pradesh ensured Vidarbha reached the playoff stages. In the quarter-final against Rajasthan, Nair scored 122 not out followed by an unbeaten 88 off 44 balls against Maharashtra in the semi-finals.
