Defending Champions Kolkata Knight Riders haven’t done well in the first half of the season as they find themselves sixth on the table. KKR and Mumbai Indians both have six points so far at the halfway stage of the season. If the Mumbai Indians win their game on Sunday against the Chennai Super Kings, then KKR will be pushed further down the table.
Ajinkya Rahane and his side batted poorly in the game against Punjab Kings and failed to chase down a measly target of 112 runs. KKR were bowled out for 95 as their batting capitulated after the fall of Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s wicket. The next game for KKR is against the Gujarat Titans at home on Monday. It is a huge chance for Rahane and his side to turn the season around as IPL 2025 enters its crucial phase of the season.
Here are the three KKR players who should be dropped vs GT
3. Ramandeep Singh

28-year-old Ramandeep Singh hasn’t been able to reproduce the form that he had shown last year. While his fielding quality cannot be questioned, Ramandeep hasn’t been able to get many chances with the bat and has scored just 29 runs from the four innings he has batted. 22 of those runs came in the game against Mumbai Indians, but since then, Ramandeep has more or less been a quiet spectator. In the game against PBKS, Ramandeep went for a careless shot off Chahal and was dismissed for a golden duck.
2. Venkatesh Iyer

The costliest buy for KKR in the 2025 auction, Venkatesh Iyer’s form has been poor this season. Iyer had scored 121 runs from seven games with an average of 24.2 and just one fifty to his name. KKR have been severely handicapped due to the bad form of Venkatesh Iyer, who was a key player in their title win last season. The 30-year-old needs to be given some rest, and the likes of Manish Pandey, Anukul Roy, or Luvnith Sisodia could be tried in his place. If KKR has to do well in the next seven games of the season, they would need their star player to perform like he did in 2024. A few games on the sidelines could also reinvigorate Iyer’s desire to prove a point.
1. Quinton de Kock

Former South African star Quinton de Kock has been having a hit-and-miss season for KKR so far this year. The 32-year-old has scored 143 runs from seven games with an average just under 24. If one removes his 97 not out against the Rajasthan Royals, then De Kock has scored just 46 runs from six matches with an average of seven. With Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the dugout, KKR management needs to take a tough call and drop de Kock for their next game against the Gujarat Titans at home. Gurbaz’s aggressive batting helped KKR dominate in the IPL 2024 season. The Afghanistan star could be the answer to KKR’s woes at the top of the order.
