After a few setbacks, the remaining matches of the sixth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) cricket are finally starting from tomorrow (June 9). The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to hold the remaining 20 matches of the tournament in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the situation of Covid-19 is not under control in their country.
The PCB has so far completed half of its work by selecting the United Arab Emirates. The other half of the task is to successfully organize the remaining matches of the tournament. And their biggest challenge in this mission is to keep everyone involved in the tournament safe in a flawless biosafety zone.
To do this properly, the PCB followed the path of the Indian Premier League (IPL), a franchise-based tournament in India. The entire IPL of 2020 was held in the UAE. At that time, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had given the responsibility of proper maintenance and health care of everyone to a company called Restrata.
This time the PCB has approached the Restrata to be completely safe. The players, franchises, and organizers of the IPL 2020 tournament were completely satisfied with Restrata’s management. So, the PCB has contacted the Restrata for a biosafety zone for staging the rest of the PSL 2021 safely.
PCB chief executive Wasim Khan told local media, “There is a global epidemic going on right now. Cricket is no exception. We know that we are safe with them. We are doing everything possible to keep the biological safety zone impeccable. We want to keep it as safe as possible. “
The remaining 20 matches of PSL 2021 will start from June 9. According to the latest schedule, the tournament will end on June 24. After that, the Pakistani players will leave for England.
The PCB has certainly made a good decision to hire the same company that ensured the bubble in IPL 2020 as they have the experience to do that successfully. This decision might help the players to concentrate on their games more without over-thinking about their safety and the organizers will also be a bit relaxed.
