Shakib Al Hasan surpasses Afridi to achieve the feat of leading wicket-taker in ICC Men’s T20 WC

Shakib Al Hasan is now the highest wicket-taker in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, surpassing former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi. Earlier, Shakib was on top jointly with Shahid Afridi taking an equal of 39 wickets each.

Shakib broke the dangerous partnership of Nissanka-Asalanka by sending off Pathum Nissanka with an delivery in the first ball of the ninth over of the innings in their first match against Sri Lanka in the Super 12 yesterday. Then, he bowled Avishka Fernando in the fourth ball of the same over to take his wicket tally to 41. The left-arm spin bowling all-rounder thereby became the highest wicket-taker in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup’s history with 41 wickets.

Shakib’s taken a total of 11 wickets in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 so far. He needs only 5 wickets to take the record of maximum wickets in one season (15).

Shakib started this ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 with many records in front of him. The left-arm spinning all-rounder scalped two wickets in a single over in the first match against Scotland in a pair of catches. At first, he achieved the feat of highest wicket-taker in the International T20s (108), and second, he is the first cricketer in international cricket who has 12 thousand runs and 600 wickets.

He took 3 wickets in the second match against Oman. And in the last match of Round 1, Shakib shared Afridi’s record against Papua New Guinea. And yesterday he has made the record only his name. Even the highest wicket-taker so far in this ongoing tournament is the world’s best all-rounder from Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan.
