Ricky Ponting sees Cummins as captain in ODIs as well

A few days ago, captain Aaron Finch officially retired from ODI cricket after playing the ODI series against New Zealand in the country. And from there, there is speculation about who will be seen as the next ODI captain. However, former Aussie captain Ricky Ponting thinks Pat Cummins will be the next ODI captain after Finch.

After Finch’s retirement, many are rumored to become Australia’s ODI captain. Many names were heard like Cummins, Alex Carey, Steven Smith. Meanwhile, David Warner has expressed direct interest in Australia’s one-day captaincy. Even Finch wanted Warner to get the captaincy.

But Australia’s two-time World Cup-winning captain Ponting thinks Pat Cummins will be the ODI captain. “Honestly, I think it will be (captain) Cummins. I know he doesn’t play all the ODIs for obvious reasons. He has the same workload as any other pacer in the world over the last few years,” Ponting said at the ICC’s review program.

Ponting added, “I know Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc are very conscious of being 100% fit for the upcoming Test series. But I will be very surprised if Cummins does not be the captain.”

Meanwhile, the Australian team is now on a tour of India. India – Australia are playing a 3-match T20I series before the upcoming T20 World Cup. However, though Ponting wants Cummins as captain, Cummins said in an interview that he is not willing to serve as Australia’s ODI captain. Let’s see who will take the lead in the end.
