Dinesh Karthik made his T20I debut for India in 2006. After 18 years, he has seen the first half century of his career. Karthik set a new record by making fifty against South Africa on June 17. Leaving behind the legendary wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

At the age of 37 years and 16 days, Karthik played an innings of 50 runs in the International Twenty20. With this, he has set a record of making fifty at the oldest age for India. Which was in the possession of Dhoni for so long. When the former Indian captain made his fifty against South Africa in 2018, he was 36 years and 229 days old.

Karthik

Karthik was part of India’s squad for the 2007 Twenty20 World Cup. That time India won the title at home. All the cricketers of that team have now retired. There is only Kartik. Even though he is old with age, his appetite for runs has not diminished. So Karthik laughed when he talked about age. Age seems to be just a number to him.

In the fourth T20 match of the Rajkot series, Karthik was asked about his age during the innings break. In reply, he said, ”Speaking of age, how old I feel. I have played with different generations. But the hunger for runs has not diminished yet. I am in a good place physically. That’s why I’m playing. ”

Earlier in the match, when the Indian team was in danger after losing 4 wickets for 81 runs, Karthik came to the crease and made a partnership of 65 runs with Hardik Pandya. He played a stormy innings of 55 off 27 balls. Team also found a fighting score of 169 runs. India won the match by 82 runs to tie the series 2-2.
