Eventually the rumor came true. Shakib Al Hasan, the world’s best all-rounder, has once again taken charge of the national team’s Test cricket as Mominul Haque’s successor. After Mominul informed his decision to the board president, the names of several people came up in answer to the question of who will be the next captain. Of course, there was no one nearer Shakib. So, the cricket fans predicted Shakib as the captain. The only thing waiting was the official announcement of the board.
Finally, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced Shakib as captain and Liton Das as his deputy. The responsibilities of these two captains will start from the upcoming tour of West Indies. Although Shakib has been made the captain, he has no fixed term. After the announcement of the name of the captain, it was learned about the tenure of Shakib’s captaincy. The tenure of Shakib’s captaincy will remain valid till the next announcement.
Speaking to reporters after the second formal meeting of the board on Thursday, BCB boss Nazmul Hasan Papon said of the term, “We are not saying how many days (Sakib’s captaincy). How long will it be (Sakib’s captaincy), it is difficult to say. Not in ODIs, not in T20s, not in Tests.
Papon further said, “We didn’t give Mominul any timeframe. He’s the Test captain, he said he doesn’t want to stay now, that’s why we gave it to someone else. Guess why? There is no timeframe for Shakib either “.
It is to be noted that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has not fixed any tenure for the captains of the cricket captains in colorful dress like in white dress cricket. Tamim Iqbal is the captain of the ODI team indefinitely and Mahmudullah Riyad is the captain of the T20 team.
