ENG vs NZ (Match 33) – Highlights

England and New Zealand met in the 33rd match of the T20 World Cup on Tuesday. England made a huge capital by going to bat first in that match. But New Zealand couldn’t reach the target as the scheduled 20 overs ended. As a result, they left the field with a loss. Along with that, Jos Buttler won the man of the match title by batting brilliantly for England.

In other words, this match was England’s fight to survive. If this match is lost, there will be a possibility of being knocked out of the World Cup. With such an equation in mind, the English had made a big collection against New Zealand. 179 runs for 6 wickets.

England won the toss and decided to bat in Brisbane. The two openers, Jos Buttler and Alex Hales had built the foundation of the team with big collections.

Buttler-Hales made a partnership of 81 runs off 62 balls to open the innings. This pair broke when Hales returned with 52 runs off 40 balls with 7 boundaries and 1 six. Then Moeen Ali got out for 5 runs. Liam Livingstone wanted to create a storm but could not be advanced more than 20 runs off 14 balls. Harry Brook scored 7 runs.

However, Buttler took the team ahead by keeping an edge. The wicket-keeper batsman was run out with 8 balls left in the innings. His innings of 73 runs off 47 balls were decorated with 7 fours and 2 sixes. Besides, Ben Stokes scored 8 runs in 7 balls. Sam Curran remains unbeaten with 6 runs from 3 balls and Dawid Malan remains unbeaten with 3 runs from 1 ball.

Kiwi pacer Lockie Ferguson took 2 wickets but spent 45 runs in 4 overs. Besides, Tim Southee, Mitchell Santner, and Ish Sodhi took 1 wicket each.

New Zealand was in the seventh sky in this World Cup. If a match had not been washed out by rain, they could have been written into the semi-finals right away. But England pulled this team of Kane Williamson to the ground. The Kiwis lost to England by 20 runs at The Gabba in Brisbane.

The defeat of New Zealand has created great uncertainty in the points table of Group 1. The points of all three teams are equal as a result of England’s victory. New Zealand, England, and Australia have 5 points each. However, the Kiwis are at the top in terms of run rate. England is second and Australia is third.

It is difficult to say where this complexity of the point table ends up. Because the two teams going to the semi-finals will depend on who wins and loses the last-round match. That is, there is no way to say in advance, which team will leave.

New Zealand did not get off to a good start as they went into bat with a target of 180 to win. Devon Conway was dismissed for 3 runs off 9 balls. Finn Allen scored 16 runs off 11 balls. After falling for two wickets for 28 runs, Kane Williamson and Glenn Phillips combined for a partnership of 91 runs to create a chance of victory in front of the Kiwis.

Glenn Phillips played the stormy innings of 62 runs off 36 balls. He hit 3 sixes with 4 boundaries. Kane Williamson scored 40 runs off 40 balls. He hit 3 boundaries.

Mitchell Santner remained unbeaten on 16 runs off 10 balls. Earlier, when James Neesham was dismissed for 6 runs and Daryl Mitchell for 3 runs, the Kiwis’ chances of victory ended. In the end, their innings ended with 159 runs after losing 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
