In the 27th match of The Hundred 2022, Oval Invincibles recorded an impressive 6-wicket win against London Spirit with 14 balls to spare at Lord’s in London on Saturday. Sam Curran was adjudged player of the match after picking up 3 wickets with his aggressive bowling.

London Spirit captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bat first, sending the Oval Invincibles to bowl. London Spirit scored 122 runs by losing 7 wickets in 100 balls under the controlled bowling of Oval Invincibles bowlers.

The aggressive bowling of the Oval Invincibles bowlers put London Spirit under pressure from the start. As a result, they could score only 11 runs after losing 1 wicket in 25 balls of power play. In the beginning, opener Ben McDermott (0) was bowled by Peter Hatzoglou for the team’s 8 runs.

Then Josh Inglis came to the wicket after one down. But he also could not make good use of it. He got out after scoring only 3 runs off 8 balls. Daniel Lawrence and Adam Rossington then led the team. London Spirit could cross the team’s 50 runs in 35 balls thanks to the duo’s 45-run partnership for the 3rd wicket.

But then Sam Curran hit the London Spirit camp. He sent opener Adam Rossington back to the pavilion for the team’s 58 runs. He scored 36 off 22 balls with 4 fours and 1 six before returning. After a while, Lawrence also returned to the dressing room scoring 14 runs off 14 balls. Unfortunately, Skipper Morgan was run out for 5 runs off 6 balls.

London Spirit, who seemed to be knocked out of the match as their scoreboard stood at 5/67 one point, then managed to post a score of 122 runs courtesy of Ravi Bopara and Jordan Thompson’s 43-run partnership. Bopara scored 19 runs and Jordan scored 27 runs.

For Oval Invincibles, Sam Curran took the maximum number of 3 wickets conceding just 16 runs off 20 balls. Although his brother Tom Curran did not get a wicket, he also gave just 16 runs off 20 balls. Besides, Peter Hatzoglou, Will Jacks, and Matt Milnes took 1 wicket each.

Chasing an easy target of 123 runs, Oval Invincibles’ two opening batsmen, Will Jacks, and Jordan Cox got off to a great start. They both scored 33 runs off 25 balls of the power play. On the next ball, when Cox returned to the dugout with 9 runs, Rilee Rossouw came to the wicket.

Their 41 off 58-run partnership for the 2nd wicket laid the foundations for victory. In the team’s 91 runs, Rossouw got out with 24 runs from 22 balls, but Jacks continued to take the team forward. He scored 32-ball fifty with 5 fours and 2 sixes. In the end, the opener returned to the pavilion after scoring 54 runs off 38 balls, and Sam Curran scored 6 runs.

But in the end, thanks to the stormy innings of Tom Curran (19 from 9 balls) and captain Sam Billings (4 from 1 ball), Oval Invincibles reached the port of victory in 86 balls after losing only 4 wickets. Jordan Thompson took the highest number of 2 wickets and Nathan Ellis, and Liam Dawson took 1 wicket each for London Spirit.
