Sikandar Raza was seen to score two centuries in the series against Bangladesh to win the series for Zimbabwe. However, Zimbabwe did not win on the day of his century against India in the last ODI of the India-Zimbabwe series. Because no one could accompany him that day. In the end, the hosts had to leave the field with the regret of losing by only 13 runs.

Chasing a target of 290 runs in the third and final ODI of the series in Harare on Monday (August 22), Zimbabwe’s innings stopped at 276 in 49.3 overs. Also, the hosts have been whitewashed after losing all the matches in the three-match ODI series.

India’s captain and opener KL Rahul had a bit of a problem in the early morning conditions after winning the toss and batting first. He is yet to find his rhythm after returning from injury, he returned to the dressing room with 30 runs from 46 balls after being caught by Brad Evans.

On the other hand, Dhawan got off to an aggressive start but was troubled by the tight bowling of Richard Ngarava and Victor Nyauchi. He could not lengthen his innings well despite getting life for 17 runs, and he got out with 40 runs off 68 balls. Like Rahul, Dhawan was also brought back by Evans.

Shubman Gill became the story of the entire innings after coming down to bat at number three. With Ishan Kishan, he made a partnership of 140 runs off 127 balls to pull the team. Mainly, Gill scored the runs in this pair from the beginning.

Kishan was shaky from the start of the innings. However, in the 32nd over, the left-handed batsman came out of the shell after hitting Raza with two consecutive fours. Gill scored the first century of his ODI career in 82 balls, keeping one end. As the other batsmen could not come out of the shell, India stopped at 289 for 8, depending on Gill’s 130-run innings off 97 balls.

In reply, Zimbabwe started to lose wickets early in the third consecutive game. Kuldeep Yadav struck first. Then Deepak Chahar was picked up by Innocent Kaia (6). Sikandar Raza, who came down for five, tried to build up a solid. Before him, Sean Williams returned with 45 runs. Skipper Regis Chakabva also returned with 15 runs. But on this day, Sikandar Raja fought alone with the bat for Zimbabwe.

Raja scored 104 runs from 77 balls in the ninth wicket partnership with Evans, who did great bowling. Due to this Zimbabwe started dreaming of defeating India in an ODI after 12 years. Raja scored the sixth century of his ODI career. With this, he picked up three centuries in his last six innings in ODIs. 115 runs came from his bat against 95 balls. His innings had 9 fours and 3 sixes.

But after Evans (28 from 36 balls) and Raza went back to the dressing room in two consecutive overs, Zimbabwe fell out of the way of victory. When Zimbabwe needed 15 runs from 9 balls to win, Shardul Thakur saved India from defeat by sending Raza back to the pavilion.

Indian pacer Avesh Khan took the highest number of 3 wickets for 66 runs. Apart from this, Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel took 2 wickets each and Shardul Thakur took 1 wicket. Shubman Gill was adjudged player of the match and player of the series for his outstanding performance in the match and throughout the series.
