In this article, we will discuss the OTD | Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was born in 1987. Former Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan has turned 36 today. He is arguably the greatest ever from Bangladesh to play cricket. Shakib was the first cricketing superstar from Bangladesh. In the early phase of his career, he was the torch bearer who opened different avenues in international cricket for himself and budding cricketers from his country. The left-handed all-rounder has a long-lasting impact on Bangladesh cricket not just as a player but as a leader as well who commands respect from each of his teammates. 

Shakib made his international debut in 2006 when he played his first One-Day international against Zimbabwe at Harare. A couple of months later he was also inducted into the T20I team for the first time. He played his maiden T20I game when Zimbabwe visited Bangladesh. His utility as an all-rounder was never in question. He could contribute equally well with both his bat and ball. The next year in 2007, he was called up for the Test side for a series against India. In the first match of the series at Chattogram, he was handed over his first Test cap. Since then, he just went from strength to strength. 

A Leader

As he progressed in his career his leadership qualities also came to the fore and he was appointed as the captain. Shakib has been consistent for his team in all three formats of the game. He has played 66 Tests, 247 ODIs, and 117 T20Is for Bangladesh. In the longest format, he has scored more than 4000 runs at an average of 39.07 whereas in ODI cricket Shakib has 7570 runs to his name. When it comes to bowling, he has got an impressive 233 and 317 wickets in Test and ODI cricket respectively. These phenomenal stats are a testimony to the outstanding career that he has had for his country. He will always be remembered as the greatest trailblazer for Bangladesh cricket.
