When India meets Pakistan at any level, there is generally a lot of excitement and anticipation, but this MCG encounter was a classic of epic proportions, with Virat Kohli playing an innings for the ages (82* off 53 balls) to lead his side to a shock triumph.

The atmosphere outside the stadium was electric before the game, and the action inside was even more exciting as Pakistan posted a competitive total of 159/8 thanks to half-centuries from Shan Masood (52*) and Iftikhar Ahmed (51).

When India lost KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar Yadav during their batting Powerplay and were reduced to 26/3 in response, Kohli performed an effort that will be remembered for many years.

The former skipper effectively partnered Hardik Pandya (40) for a 113-run combination to keep India in the game before pulling off some late heroics to win it for his team.

Kohli blasted consecutive sixes off the final two deliveries of Haris Rauf’s penultimate over, setting up a thrilling final over from Mohammad Nawaz.

In an exciting last over that saw India win by four wickets, there were wickets lost, waist-high no balls, free hits, sixes, wides, and byes.

The best T20I matches do not have to be high-scoring affairs, as Sikandar Raza led Zimbabwe to a one-run victory over Pakistan in yet another final over drama.

Many of Raza’s colleagues struggled with the bat as the African side compiled 130/8 from 20 overs, which many thought to be a procession for Pakistan’s renowned batting lineup lead by skipper Babar Azam.

They didn’t expect Raza’s exploits with the ball to push Zimbabwe to a stunning victory, aided by some unexpected support from Australia legend Ricky Ponting.

Raza grabbed three wickets with the ball and was vital in inflicting the ultimate dagger in Pakistan’s hearts with the game-winning run out from the final delivery.

The Zimbabwe veteran revealed after the game that he had watched a video on the ICC social channels previous to the game in which Ponting discussed his recent white-ball heroics.

Raza delivered an outstanding solo performance to maintain Zimbabwe in contention for an unexpected semi-final spot at the event, spurred by the Australian great’s impassioned words.

3. Scotland v Ireland, Bellerive Oval, October 19

Curtis Campher (72*) and George Dockrell (39) formed a partnership capable of winning any battle when Ireland were reduced to 61/4 in the 10th over of their pursuit of Scotland’s towering total of 176/5.

The two put on an unbeaten partnership of 119 from 57 deliveries to enable Ireland win the penultimate over and move to the Super 12.

Ireland’s highest-ever successful T20I run chase, and Campher and Dockrell’s stand was Ireland’s highest-ever T20 World Cup partnership.
