PBKS vs RCB (Qualifier 1 Match) – Highlights
Royal Challengers Bengaluru showcased a superb all-round performance to chase down Punjab Kings by eight wickets in IPL 2025’s first qualifier at New Chandigarh Stadium, Mohali, on 29 May. It was a night when RCB’s bowlers, led by the crafty Suyash Sharma and the ever-consistent Josh Hazlewood, were in charge and made way for a quick and decisive chase that saw them into the final.
After electing to bowl, RCB wasted no time dismantling PBKS’s top order, who buckled under the mounting pressure. The Kings never found their footing after a shaky start. Priyansh Arya departed in the second over, and although Prabhsimran Singh played a brief cameo of 18 off 10 balls, it did little to stabilize the innings. Josh Inglis, Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera followed in quick succession, with Josh Hazlewood and Yash Dayal striking in tandem to keep Punjab reeling. At one stage, PBKS were 50 for 5 inside seven overs.
Marcus Stoinis tried to start a counter-attack with a 26 off 17, including two sixes, but fell to the clever Suyash Sharma, who put paid to PBKS’s only threatening stand. Suyash was on a roll when he took both Shashank Singh and the Pakistani Musheer Khan in the same over, and his 3 for 17 earned him Player of the Match. Hazlewood joined the party with three wickets, complementing Suyash perfectly as PBKS crumbled to 101 all out in only 14.1 overs.
RCB grabbed the chase of 102 from the very first ball onwards. Phil Salt, currently in an electrifying form for the season, hammered an amazing 56 not out in 27 balls in a power-hitting exhibition, hitting six fours and three sixes that sent the PBKS attack packing. RCB lost two wickets during the chase, of Virat Kohli and Mayank Agarwal, but at no point was the outcome in doubt. Rajat Patidar, the captain for the evening, then polished off the chase with a quick knock of 15* off 8 balls, within 10 overs, with a massive 60 balls to spare.
It was a one-sided affair that showcased RCB’s superiority in every department. From sharp bowling changes to aggressive intent with the bat, Bengaluru ticked all the boxes. For PBKS, the loss was a stark reminder of their middle-order fragility and inability to handle pressure in crunch games. They now move to Qualifier 2, hoping for redemption and another shot at the final.
