MI vs DC (63rd Match) – Highlights
Under the dazzling lights of the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians put on a clinical all-round performance to trounce Delhi Capitals by 59 runs in the 63rd match of IPL 2025. With this dominant win, Mumbai consolidated their position in the top four while Delhi’s playoff hopes took a dent.
Winning the toss and batting first, the Mumbai Indians got off to a quick start, although they lost Rohit Sharma early. Rohit could only manage 5 runs before falling to Mustafizur Rahman. Ryan Rickelton, the wicketkeeper-opener, looked promising with his 25 off 18 balls, including a couple of sixes, but he too perished before he could convert his start. Will Jacks added a breezy 21 off 13 before getting dismissed by Mukesh Kumar, who was Delhi’s most successful bowler.
Despite everything else, Suryakumar Yadav managed to keep the attention centered on himself. Arriving at the crease as one of the dismissal players at a hard juncture, when MI was in need, SKY, as he is known to the fans played his natural game, showing all his wonderful swash-buckling skills and epic confidence, carrying MI at a respectable level innings of 73*, off only 43 balls, with stroke play that included seven 4s and four 6s, each highlight by each of his spectacular wristy flicks and magical inside-out drives. A composed knock of 27 by Tilak Varma and a fiery finish from Naman Dhir, who remained unbeaten on 24 off 8, helped MI post a solid 180/5 at the end of their 20 overs.
In reply, DC never really got going. Their top order collapsed under pressure, with big names like KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis dismissed within the powerplay. Rahul’s aggressive start ended on 11 off 6 balls, while Faf struggled for timing before falling for 6. The spin duo of Mitchell Santner and Will Jacks kept things tight, with Santner being the standout, returning incredible figures of 4-0-11-3. He removed the dangerous Sameer Rizvi for 39 and claimed the Vipraj Nigam wickets and Ashutosh Sharma.
Jasprit Bumrah, as clinical as ever, cleaned up the tail with figures of 3 for 12 from just 3.2 overs. The Delhi batting collapsed to 121 all out in 18.2 overs, failing to show any resistance except for a brief cameo by Rizvi. Bumrah, Santner, and Jacks ensured that MI maintained control throughout the innings, giving the Wankhede crowd plenty to cheer about.
Suryakumar Yadav was deservedly named the Player of the Match for his scintillating knock, which proved to be the difference on a surface that had something for both batters and bowlers. Mumbai’s strong finish with the bat and relentless bowling effort have again shown why they are contenders for the title.
