LQ vs PZ (29th Match) – Highlights
In a rain-shortened but action-packed 13-over-a-side thriller at Rawalpindi, LQ asserted their dominance over PZ with a convincing 26-run win in the 29th match of the Pakistan Super League 2025. The Qalandars, already out of playoff contention, played with flair and freedom, delivering a performance that was equal parts entertaining and clinical.
Choosing to bat first, LQ unleashed a flurry of fireworks, leaving the opposition stunned right from the outset. Fakhar Zaman did most of the heavy lifting, sending the ball over the short boundaries without a care, making a blistering 60 off 36 balls that contained 7 fours and 3 sixes. Mohammad Naeem chipped in with a quickfire 22 off 10 balls, which put the Qalandars at 54 in less than 4 overs. Despite losing wickets consistently, the run rate never slowed down, since every batter was looking to hit it as far as they could in the short format. Asif Ali contributed 18 off 6 balls and Kusal Perera added 17 off 8 balls, adding to the insanity.
It was a long day for PZ bowlers, with just Daniel Sams and Ahmed Daniyal showing any rhythm. Both took two wickets, but the hitters had done the damage. Ali Raza took two, as well, going for 26 in his 2 overs. The rest of the bowlers were out of control, with Mohammad Ali going for 21 in 1 over. They ended at 149/8 for the innings in 13 overs for a huge 150 target.
In response, Zalmi never quite found the momentum they needed. Salman Mirza, playing his first significant game of the season, emerged as the unexpected hero with the ball. He delivered a match-winning spell, claiming 4 for 31 in his 3 overs, including the prized wickets of Mohammad Haris, Saim Ayub (who was out hit-wicket), and the dangerous Max Bryant. Shaheen Shah Afridi struck twice as well, removing Abdul Samad and Luke Wood to further dent Zalmi’s chase.
Babar Azam, as always, looked classy but fell for a modest 16, and the middle order crumbled under pressure. At 63 for 7, the game was almost done and dusted. However, Daniel Sams and Ahmed Daniyal gave a brief flicker of hope with a 28-run stand, playing some audacious strokes to keep the asking rate within touching distance. Zalmi had a glimmer of hope, but Salman Mirza came back and sent Daniyal packing — that was pretty much game over.
With this win, Lahore Qalandars ended their PSL 2025 campaign on a high, handing Zalmi a blow just when they were eyeing a spot in the playoffs. Salman Mirza lit up the night with a stunning four-wicket burst, a performance that rightfully won him the Player of the Match honors.
