On a run-flooded night in Rawalpindi, KK put on a phenomenal batting performance to beat PZ by 23 runs under lights in match 27 of the Pakistan Super League 2025. The Karachi Kings looked to be in trouble early on after being put to bat, with Ben McDermott losing his wicket for a golden duck in the first over. Vince wasn’t just support — he was Warner’s perfect rhythm, blazing through 72 off 42. Together, they provided a scintillating second wicket partnership of 162 in just under 15 overs and gave the Kings a great platform after the first 20 overs.

After the quick wickets of Vince and Irfan Khan, the carnage was far from over. Khushdil Shah lit up the death overs with a blistering cameo, hammering 43 not out from just 15 balls, supported by Mohammad Nabi, who added 26 from 10. The Kings ended their innings at a mammoth 237 for 4, with a run rate of 11.85 per over. The PZ bowling lineup was taken to the cleaners, with only Luke Wood standing out with figures of 2 for 19 in his four overs. The rest of the attack, particularly Ahmed Daniyal and Ali Raza, leaked runs heavily under pressure.

Faced with a difficult target of 238, Peshawar Zalmi were intent on chasing the target down. Saim Ayub laid a strong platform blazing to 47 from 31 deliveries, hitting six boundaries and one huge six, which reflected his class. Haris and Kohler-Cadmore pressed fast-forward, driving Zalmi’s innings ahead. 

However, the star of the innings was Captain Babar Azam, who played an extraordinary innings. The skipper produced a sparkling 94 from only 49 balls and hit ten boundaries and four sixes, keeping Peshawar Zalmi in the match right up to the 18th over before just missing what would have been an incredible run chase.

Just as the momentum began swinging in Peshawar Zalmi’s favor, a moment of brilliance in the field turned the tide. A sharp run-out, expertly executed by Aamer Jamal and wicketkeeper Saad Baig, ended Babar Azam’s heroic innings and dealt a crushing blow to Zalmi’s hopes. Despite maintaining a scoring rate of over 10 runs per over throughout the chase, Zalmi ultimately fell short by 23 runs, finishing at 214 for 5.

The KK bowlers Hasan Ali and Mir Hamza were under pressure but finished strong with figures of 1 for 30 and 1 for 33. Abbas Afridi got 2 wickets, but was expensive, with 48 runs against him. David Warner was Player of the Match, and rightly so, for his dominant innings and inventive captaincy.
