In an exciting 24th match in the Pakistan Super League 2025, the Karachi Kings defeated the Lahore Qalandars by 4 wickets using the DLS method in a 15-over curtailed match with a revised target at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore. Lahore scored 161 in 15 overs and set a revised target of 168, which was competitive. Thanks to a brilliant innings from Irfan Khan, the Karachi batting order was sufficiently strong to get them home to victory with 3 balls to spare.

The Qalandars batted first after a rain-affected start, which reduced the match to 15-over innings per side, and they came out with fire. Mohammad Naeem stole the show early, smashing 65 off 29 deliveries (6 fours and 5 sixes) at a strike rate greater than 220. He was accompanied by Fakhar Zama,n who hit a steady 51 from 33 balls. Their 90-run opening partnership gave Lahore a solid foundation before they suddenly collapsed in the middle of the order.

Lahore was dismissed partly because of Abbas Afridi’s match-winning spell, as he took four essential wickets – both opening batsmen and Daryl Mitchell for a golden duck – en route to 4 for 27. After such a blistering start, Lahore found themselves 7 wickets down for 63 runs in the second half of their innings. Lahore finished their innings with 160 for 8, saved by some lower-order contributions at the end of their innings, which looked a useful score in the conditions.

As a result, the Karachi Kings came out with intent as Captain David Warner blasted a quick-fire 24 off 13 balls. His opening partner, Tim Seifert, was even more explosive, smashing 24 off just 10 balls. The Kings reached 40 within the fourth over of the innings but lost Warner on a jaffa from Haris Rauf. Seifert followed not long after, and wickets fell at regular intervals, bringing the game back into equilibrium.

But Irfan Khan had other ideas. Coming in at a crucial stage, and marking his arrival with a confident knock of 48 not out of just 21 balls, Irfan showed very clean hitting and stoic calmness. He hit two boundaries and five sixes to wrestle back the momentum from the Qalandars. He and Mohammad Nabi were commenting on how well they were going in the chase, and Mohammad quickly went for 15 off 8 balls. 

The Kings of Karachi then made light work of the total of 168, finishing the chase in 14.3 overs to claim a much-needed victory in the battle for playoff spots. The Player of the Match, Irfan Khan, made a name for himself with all-round displays under pressure, thus proving to be the future of Pakistan cricket!
