PBKS vs LSG (54th Match) – Highlights
Punjab Kings (PBKS) emerged victorious by 37 runs over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 54. PBKS batted first, and Prabhsimran Singh went crazy, taking PBKS to a strong position, building a competitive 236 for 5. LSG batted very well and had good contributions by Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad, but fell short at 199 for 7.
The PBKS side opted to bat first after calling heads. They lost Priyansh Arya for one run off the first ball; however, what ensued was an excellent exhibition of controlled aggression with a great innings. Prabhsimran Singh was brilliant from start to finish – he scored 91 runs off just 48 balls, which included six fours and seven sixes. Prabhsimran had a great mentality while batting, and that mentality and numbers rubbed off on everyone else throughout the innings while he kept the LSG bowlers under pressure.
Josh Inglis was keeping things quick as he smashed a blistering 30 off just 14 balls, while his captain, Shreyas Iyer, had a solid 45 off 25. Both Inglis and Iyer, with the contributions of Shashank Singh (33* off 15) and Marcus Stoinis (15* off 5), propelled PBKS past 230. LSG’s bowlers had little to work with, with Akash Singh and Digvesh Rathi taking a pair of wickets each. Outside of the two, it was a hard day’s work for the other bowlers for LSG, with Mayank Yadav being hit for 60 and Avesh Khan for 57.
Chasing a steep target of 237, LSG’s innings began disastrously. Arshdeep Singh produced a sensational opening burst, removing Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, and Nicholas Pooran within the powerplay. His fiery spell put LSG on the back foot at 27 for 3. Rishabh Pant tried to stabilize the innings but fell for 18. At that point, a collapse seemed inevitable.
All eyes turned to Ayush Badoni—the lone LSG gladiator—blazing 74 off 40 in a defiant solo act, with Abdul Samad chipping in a fiery 45 off 24 to keep the flames alive. They went to hatch a slithper of a partnership, causing LSG a moment of hope, but the required run rate was climbing, and the quality of bowlers was improving, with PBKS’s Amarjit Singh (2 for 14), Azmatullah Omarzai (2 for 33), and Marco Jansen (1 for 31).
With 49 runs needed off the last two overs, the game slipped out of LSG’s grasp. Arshdeep Singh returned to finish with sensational figures of 3 for 16 in his four overs, earning the plaudits for his game-defining performance.
