GT vs SRH (51st Match) – Highlights
In a gripping contest in Ahmedabad, Gujarat Titans (GT) turned in a complete performance to win comfortably over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 38 runs in match 51 of IPL 2025. With accelerated batting from GT with their captain Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler leading the way to higher scoring, they established a sound footing early in the game. The Sunrisers fought with vigour from Abhishek Sharma, but could not see them through chasing a huge target of 225 runs.
The Gujarat Titans opted to bat first. They got off to a great start with a wild and crazy opening-knock from Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill. Sudharsan butchered it all with 48 off 23-balls, with nine fours, to get GT off to a start. Gill played a fabulous captain’s knock with 76 off 38 balls, and strike-rate over 200 with ten fours and two sixes gave GT plenty of run-scoring opportunities.
Once Sudharsan departed in the seventh over, Jos Buttler carried forward the momentum. The Englishman was in sublime touch, scoring 64 off 37 balls, including four sixes. The GT top order laid the foundation for a massive total, and even though wickets tumbled towards the end, including a golden duck from Rashid Khan, GT finished strongly at 224 for 6 in their 20 overs.
In response, Sunrisers Hyderabad began their chase with intent. Travis Head looked aggressive early on, scoring 20 before falling to Prasidh Krishna. The real highlight for SRH came from Abhishek Sharma, who kept their hopes alive with a blistering 74 from 41 deliveries, laced with four fours and six maximums. However, once he was dismissed at the end of the 15th over, the chase began to falter.
GT had Prasidh Krishna as the spearhead. Krishna took home the Player of the Match award after bowling four superbly economical overs costing only 19 runs while claiming two key wickets. Siraj also bowled wonderfully with 2 for 33, while Gerald Coetzee took 1 for 31 – Ishant Sharma also took 1 wicket.
Despite some late-order hitting from Nitish Kumar Reddy and Pat Cummins, who both struck at over 190, SRH couldn’t mount a comeback and managed 186 for 6 in their full quota of overs. Rashid Khan had a rare off day, going for 50 runs in his three overs without a wicket, but the rest of the GT bowlers held their nerve to close out the match.
Cricinfo named Shubman Gill the MVP of the match for his composed captain’s knock, but it was Prasidh Krishna’s game-changing spell that truly sealed the victory. While Gill anchored the innings and applied pressure during key moments of SRH’s chase, Krishna’s impact made him a strong contender—arguably the more deserving choice—for the MVP honors.
