MI vs RR (50th Match) – Highlights

In a high-octane IPL 2025 clash at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, the MI delivered a clinical all-round performance to thrash the RR by a staggering 100 runs in the 50th match. With this dominating win, MI reaffirmed their credentials as one of the most formidable sides this season, while RR were left reeling from a performance that went wrong in every department.

MI were asked to bat first and made the most of ideal batting conditions. The opening pair of Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma got MI off to a flying start. Rickelton was in sublime touch, timing the ball beautifully and punishing anything loose. He brought up a quickfire 61 off 38 balls, striking 7 fours and 3 sixes, before falling to Maheesh Theekshana. Rohit Sharma oozed elegance with a silky 53 off 36, striking at near-150 like a maestro in cruise control.

Once the openers set the tone, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya took over with an exhibition of clean, aggressive hitting. Both remained unbeaten on 48 each, off just 23 balls apiece, and tore apart the RR bowling attack in the death overs. Their unbroken 94-run partnership powered MI to a daunting total of 217 for 2 in their 20 overs. Rajasthan’s bowlers had no answers, with Fazalhaq Farooqi and Theekshana leaking runs at over 11 per over, and none of the six bowlers managing more than a single wicket.

In pursuit of an almost impossible target of 218, RR displayed dismal performance with a batting display that fell under the scrutiny of pressure and expectation led by their top-order batsmen. With the Royals already floundering on three tough wickets in the first four overs whilst not even getting out of the blocks, it was already too far gone.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, out for a duck, Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Nitish Rana both showed very little resistance against the bowling of both Trent Boult and Hardik Pandya. Riyan Parag may have had good intentions of coming out to fire, with runs of 16 scored off 8 balls, yet he could too succumb to the pressure, with Jasprit Bumrah taking down Riyan Parag and Hetmyer in succession.

Once the top order had been blown away, the Royals appeared to be out of the contest. Jofra Archer showed some fight at number 7 with a stubborn 30 off 27 balls but did not receive much support from the other end. Karn Sharma played an important role in mopping up the tail, ending with very good stats of 3-23. Jasprit Bumrah was brilliant as always, only conceded 15 runs in 4 overs and took 2 wickets. Boult also helped with 3 wickets and RR bowled out in 16.1 overs for 117 runs.

Ryan Rickelton was very much deserving of the Player of the Match recognition after reasonably explosive opening innings which laid a solid foundation for MI’s significant total.
