Under the floodlights, cricketing veterans displayed their experience and skills in a thrilling contest. Indian Royals held their nerve to clinch a narrow 9-run victory, successfully defending their total of 168 against a determined Asian Stars batting lineup.
Batting first, IR got off to a solid start despite losing their wicketkeeper-batter Rahul Yadav early for 24. He looked in fine touch before falling leg-before to Mehran Khan in the eighth over. The team’s captain, Faiz Fazal, anchored the innings brilliantly, playing an unbeaten knock of 29 off 27 deliveries. However, the real momentum came from Jakati, who played an aggressive innings of 25 off just 11 balls, striking at over 141 before getting dismissed by Kashyap in the 16th over.
Bipul Sharma contributed a brief yet crucial 3-run cameo before Swapnil Patil fell cheaply to Ankit Narwal. Gony remained unbeaten at the end, scoring 7 runs, ensuring Indian Royals finished at a competitive 168 for 4 in 20 overs. The team also benefited from a generous 20 wides from Asian Stars’ bowlers, which bolstered their total.
Asian Stars’ bowlers had mixed success, with Kashyap being the most effective, picking up 2 wickets for 24 runs in his three-over spell. Mehran Khan, who also led the team, bowled economically, conceding 21 runs in his four overs while picking up a crucial wicket. Ankit Narwal and Tinu Kundu struggled to contain the batters, leaking runs at over 8 and 15 per over, respectively. Ishwar Pandey, though wicketless, maintained a tight line and length with an economy of 7.50.
Chasing 169 for victory, ANS got off to a shaky start, losing opener Ankit Narwal early for just 5. The pressure was immediately on Kashyap Prajapati and Mehran Khan to rebuild the innings, and the duo responded with a fantastic partnership. Kashyap played a well-paced innings, remaining unbeaten on 54 off 37 balls, keeping Asian Stars in the chase until the very end. Mehran Khan provided valuable support, smashing 56 off 43 balls before holing out to Karanveer Singh off Bipul Sharma’s bowling.
With just a few overs remaining, Sarul Kanwar stepped in and played an attacking knock of 40 off 15 balls, striking at an incredible rate of 266.67. His powerful hitting brought Asian Stars tantalizingly close to the target. However, his dismissal in the penultimate over at 156-3 tilted the balance back in favor of Indian Royals. Despite a late push from Swapnil Patil, who finished with an unbeaten 3, Asian Stars fell short by just 9 runs, closing their innings at 159 for 3.
Indian Royals’ bowlers stepped up at crucial moments, with Bipul Sharma being the standout performer, picking up a key wicket and conceding just 35 runs in four overs. Sudeep Tyagi proved expensive but still managed to claim an important wicket of Sarul Kanwar. Manpreet Gony, Anureet Singh, and Shadab Jakati contributed with tight spells, ensuring that the Asian Stars’ batters did not get away completely.
