MINY vs. WF (Final Match) – Highlights
It was a grand finale that lived up to every ounce of the hype as MINY edged past WF by just five runs in a nail-biting Major League Cricket 2025 final at Dallas. High on drama, soaked in tension, and blessed with spectacular individual brilliance, the match had everything cricket fans could’ve hoped for — except perhaps a Super Over. The title didn’t just fall into their lap—MI New York wrestled it in the last over with icy veins and fiery intent.
The South African veteran played a gem of an innings under pressure, hammering 77 off just 46 balls with six boundaries and four towering sixes. Monank Patel gave him able company early on with a brisk 28 before falling to Lockie Ferguson, who turned out to be the pick of the Washington bowlers. Ferguson’s pace and control troubled the MI middle order, and he finished with superb figures of 3 for 21 in his four overs.
Nicholas Pooran, the MI skipper, chipped in with a handy 21, but wickets started tumbling in the middle overs. Pollard’s golden silence echoed loudest as 149 for 5 turned the scoreboard into a slow-motion collapse. However, Kunwarjeet Singh came up clutch in the death overs with a 13-ball 22*, adding valuable runs alongside Trent Boult to lift the total to 180/7. It wasn’t a daunting total by MLC standards, but it was certainly defendable on a slightly tacky Dallas pitch.
WF’s chase couldn’t have started any worse. Mitchell Owen and Andries Gous were both dismissed within the first over, with Boult striking gold and leaving the scoreboard a shocking 0/2. Enter Rachin Ravindra. The New Zealand all-rounder brought composure and class, counter-attacking beautifully to rack up 70 off just 41 balls. With Jack Edwards launching a rapid 33, the partnership became Washington’s rescue rope from the brink.
When Ravindra fell at 130 for 4, the equation was still manageable, especially with Glenn Phillips and Glenn Maxwell at the crease. Phillips launched five sixes in his 48* off 34 deliveries, nearly taking the game away. Maxwell, however, struggled for fluency and was eventually dismissed for 15 in the penultimate over, caught off Rushil Ugarkar, who emerged as an unsung hero with his 2 for 32 spell.
The final over saw Washington needing 10 runs, but MI New York’s bowlers held their nerve. Despite Phillips’ efforts, the Freedom fell just short at 175/5, handing the title to New York in dramatic fashion. Boult’s early breakthroughs, De Kock’s power-packed innings, and the collective discipline of the MI bowling unit made the ultimate difference.
