MI-W vs DC-W (13th Match) – Highlights
The 13th match of the Women’s Premier League 2025 saw the DC Women deliver a dominant performance against MI Women at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. With a comprehensive nine-wicket victory, Delhi Capitals showcased their strength in both bowling and batting, outplaying Mumbai in all departments.
MI Women, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, struggled to put up a competitive total after being asked to bat first. The innings started with Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews attempting to set the foundation, but the loss of wickets at regular intervals disrupted their momentum. Yastika managed to score 11 before falling to Shikha Pandey, while Matthews, despite hitting four boundaries, was dismissed for 22 by Annabel Sutherland.
The middle order tried to stabilize the innings with contributions from Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur. Sciver-Brunt’s innings of 18 came at a strike rate of 81.81, while the skipper played a brisk knock of 22 off 16 balls, including two fours and a six. However, Jess Jonassen’s brilliant spell put Mumbai on the back foot as she dismissed both Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet, finishing with figures of 3 for 25. Minnu Mani also made a significant impact, claiming three wickets for just 17 runs.
Amanjot Kaur was the only lower-order batter who provided some resistance, scoring an unbeaten 17 off 10 deliveries. However, Mumbai could only manage 123 for 9 in their 20 overs, a total that seemed below par on a batting-friendly pitch. Delhi Capitals’ disciplined bowling effort ensured they kept the pressure on Mumbai throughout the innings.
Chasing a modest target of 124, DC Women made their intentions clear from the outset. Captain Meg Lanning led from the front with a composed yet authoritative 60 not out off 49 balls. She was well-supported by the aggressive Shafali Verma, who played a quickfire knock of 43 off 28 balls, laced with four boundaries and three sixes.
Mumbai’s bowling attack failed to contain the Capitals’ batters as the opening stand between Lanning and Verma put up 85 runs. Amanjot Kaur managed to break the partnership by dismissing Shafali, but by then, the damage had already been done. Jemimah Rodrigues joined Lanning in the middle and played an effortless cameo of 15 off 10 balls, ensuring the chase was completed in just 14.3 overs.
The bowling effort from Mumbai Indians lacked penetration, with none of the bowlers being able to control the scoring rate effectively. Nat Sciver-Brunt proved to be expensive, conceding 27 runs in her two overs, while Amelia Kerr and Hayley Matthews also leaked runs at a high economy. Shabnim Ismail was economical but went wicketless, and Amanjot Kaur was the only bowler to pick up a wicket.
