BAN vs NZ (6th Match) – Highlights
In this article, we will discuss the thrilling encounter between Bangladesh and New Zealand in the 6th match of Group A of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, held at Rawalpindi on February 24, 2025. It was a high-stakes, day-night clash where New Zealand showcased their resilience, chasing down Bangladesh’s target of 237 with ease. With a composed batting performance, New Zealand secured a 5-wicket victory with 23 balls to spare, strengthening their position in the tournament.
Bangladesh, after being put to bat, posted a competitive total of 236/9 in their allotted 50 overs. The innings began with Tanzid Hasan showing early aggression, scoring 24 off 24 balls, including a six and a four, before being dismissed by Michael Bracewell.
Najmul Hossain Shanto, the Bangladesh skipper, anchored the innings with a patient 77 off 110 balls, striking 9 boundaries. Despite his solid effort, wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Mehidy Hasan Miraz (13 off 14) and Towhid Hridoy (7 off 24) couldn’t provide much support, as Bracewell continued his dominance with the ball.
The middle order struggled, with experienced players like Mushfiqur Rahim (2) and Mahmudullah (4) failing to make significant contributions. However, Jaker Ali played a crucial knock of 45 off 55 balls, steadying the innings and adding valuable runs alongside Rishad Hossain, who contributed a brisk 26 off 25.
Despite these efforts, Bangladesh’s innings never gained full momentum due to consistent breakthroughs by New Zealand’s bowlers, particularly Michael Bracewell, who finished with impressive figures of 4/26 in 10 overs. Will O’Rourke chipped in with 2/48, while Matt Henry and Kyle Jamieson took a wicket each.
In response, New Zealand’s chase got off to a shaky start as Taskin Ahmed struck in the first over, dismissing Will Young for a duck. Soon after, Nahid Rana removed Kane Williamson (5), leaving the Kiwis at 15/2.
However, Rachin Ravindra played a match-defining innings, anchoring the chase with a magnificent 112 off 105 balls, which included 12 fours and a six. His partnership with Tom Latham (55 off 76) proved pivotal, as they added 129 runs for the fourth wicket, stabilizing the innings.
Although Bangladesh managed to dismiss Ravindra in the 39th over, New Zealand was already in a commanding position. Glenn Phillips (21*) and Michael Bracewell (11*) calmly guided their team home, reaching 240/5 in 46.1 overs.
Despite a disciplined bowling effort from Taskin Ahmed (1/28) and Mustafizur Rahman (1/42), Bangladesh couldn’t contain New Zealand’s middle-order resilience. Rishad Hossain also took 1/58, but the lack of consistent breakthroughs in the latter part of the innings allowed New Zealand to comfortably chase down the target and secure an important victory.
