GG-W vs MI-W (5th Match) – Highlights
In this article, we will discuss the 5th match of the Women’s Premier League 2025 between GG Women and MI Women, played at Vadodara on February 18, 2025. Mumbai Indians Women emerged victorious by 5 wickets, comfortably chasing down the target of 121 with 23 balls to spare. The match saw a disciplined bowling effort from Mumbai, restricting Gujarat Giants to a modest total, followed by a composed run chase.
MI innings started with Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia opening the batting. Matthews looked solid, striking three boundaries in her 17-run knock but fell to Tanuja Kanwar in the fourth over. Bhatia, on the other hand, struggled for fluency and was dismissed for 8 off 10 balls by Priya Mishra.
With the score at 46/2 in the seventh over, Captain Harmanpreet Kaur walked in but lasted just two balls, trapped lbw by Kashvee Gautam for 4. This sudden collapse left Mumbai at 55/3, momentarily giving Gujarat Giants hope.
However, Nat Sciver-Brunt steadied the innings in partnership with Amelia Kerr, adding 45 runs for the fourth wicket. Kerr played a patient knock of 19 off 20 balls, including a crucial six, but she too was dismissed lbw by Gautam. At 100/4 in the 15th over, Mumbai Indians still needed 21 runs to win, but Sciver-Brunt continued her attacking approach.
She found a reliable partner in Sajeevan Sajana, who played a quick cameo of 10 off just six balls. Sciver-Brunt’s outstanding innings came to an end in the 16th over when she was bowled by Priya Mishra, but by then, Mumbai was just a few runs away from victory.
Sajana and G Kamalini finished the chase in style, with Kamalini striking a boundary on her very first ball to seal the win in the 17th over. Mumbai Indians’ clinical batting display ensured they crossed the target with 23 balls to spare, further strengthening their position in the tournament.
GG bowlers tried hard, but the total was too small to defend. Priya Mishra (2/40) and Kashvee Gautam (2/15) were the standout performers with the ball, while Tanuja Kanwar picked up one wicket.
However, their efforts were not enough to contain Mumbai’s aggressive batting lineup. Earlier in the match, Mumbai’s bowlers had done a fantastic job in restricting Gujarat Giants to 120, setting up a comfortable chase.
